Guest guest
I try to make sure and schedule them earlier in the month, no matter how late they originally start to ensure that they have time to make it up, if they need to r/s. You could set up some policies where they cannot r/s less than 24 hr notice unless considered an extreme emergency but then you have to come up with a form and have them sign this from the beginning. We have an EMR but I make hard copies of all appts and keep them in a file that I leaf thru every time I am seeing someone -this helps me keep track of people who are or who have slipped thru the cracks. You have to remember that u r not responsible for their ability to make or r/s their appts. - if they screw it up, it's on them. when i have chronically late pts or pts who constantly r/s, i let them know in a nice way that I wonder about their ability to make diet and exercise chge a priority in their life, which ultimately predicts their ability to succeed, long term. good luck,On Tue, Jun 26, 2012 at 7:26 AM, sprinta2004 <bspruill@...> wrote: Does anyone at the practice/facility deal with patient always waiting to the last minute to schedule their supervised weight loss session and risk missing the month to lead to them having to begin again? Need suggestions!!! There are time when I feel like I can't say no because it will push the patients back from having surgery and since we are such a small group I feel pressure to make accomodations to fit the patient's in and get them through surgery, even if this may be demonstrating noncompliance. Guest guest
We have our weight management clinic days usually twice a week most weeks, and we have our check out employees schedule them as close to the beginning of the month as possible. Our last week of the month is reserved as "leftover" days for patients who may have missed their original appointment, or if they truly just could not come any other time (we make sure they all know that they have to start over again if they don't come in for consecutive months). Guest guest
We have recently switched to group sessions for the 6 month medically supervised diet as out numbers have grown to 100 a month and growing whose insurance requires this. However we make it very clear from day 1 they must complete 6 months in a row. If they miss a month we recommend they go to their PCP BUT there are always a few who still come to us due to scheduling reasons and yes, they wait til the end of the month. We keep track of all our pre ops regularly via phonecalls and check where they are in the pre op process- how many tests they have completed, what is left, any questions etc. If they go to their PCP we ask for records to be sent asap so our insurance coordinator can review them. We discovered many were inaccurately or inappropriately documented visits with their PCP which either led to an insurance denial or a restart of the 6 month process. We have to walk our patients through it -just our experienceCiara Ferguson RD,LD From: Dana Schaub <dancindrpea@...> " " < > Sent: Thursday, June 28, 2012 6:01 PM Subject: Re: Late appointments We have our weight management clinic days usually twice a week most weeks, and we have our check out employees schedule them as close to the beginning of the month as possible.
