I have a patient who is on Coumadin, but will need to stop 7 days prior to surgery. He will be on the Bariatric Advantage protein shake during this time (pre-op diet) which contains 50% vitamin K. Does anyone know if this will cause any

problems for him before or during surgery??

Thanks for your help,

Abby

They will probably be monitoring his INR, & ProTime. I would make sure the doctor knows aobut this vitamin K content though so that he can make adjustments as needed From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of Herrick, AbbySent: Thursday, March 15, 2012 10:10 AM Subject: coumadin I have a patient who is on Coumadin, but will need to stop 7 days prior to surgery. Consistency of vitamin K intake is key for Coumadin/vitamin K levels. So, as long as he’s having ~ the same amount of those shakes each day he should be okay.
