Guest guest
Over the years, this has gotten more difficult for me. Fortunately, I entered a profession that does not require much time on my feet. It started out with difficulty with pain when standing in one place. In college, I began to have trouble with being on my feet and working retail. Over the past 10+ years, I have gone from orthotics to AFOs with orthotics to a scooter (just 3 weeks ago). I still walk with AFOs. I just don't have to take the risks of tripping and I can actually look around and see what is around me, instead of staring intently at the ground for any trip hazards. I went to the Indy Jazz Fest last night. This would have been impossibly dangerous for me, without the scooter. And today, I would be in excrucating pain from the stress of walking. Today, I am going to work at our parish's festival from 3-8. Again, impossible to even consider before. (Look for my next post on some other adaptations I have made that go beyond this topic.) Thanks to everyone for your hope and encouragement. Jim
