Guest guest
> I need a teacher! Can someone please explain to me what Ultrez 10 and TEA are? Hi, I will try to be brief Ultrez 10 is a specific polymer - what is a polymer - it is double bonds of carbon. It is a white powder that is " wetted down " or dispearsed in water. TEA is sort of like a weak lye solution - it would be equivelent to an 18% solution - it is used to raise the pH of the water and polymer. The weaker solution is used because it is easier to control how much you add. The polymer " as is " has a pH of around 3, very low, and when you add the TEA it goes up slowly. As the pH raises, the polymer, (which looks like tightly wound balls of string), unravels and takes up more space. As they take up more space it makes gel. They just fluff up products like lotion? Sage

As I prefer to use natural ingredients, I am always a bit nervous when something new comes along that looks all synthetic to me. I don't want to miss out on something wonderful, but I also do not want to jump on a band wagon and use ingredients that are not healthful for the skin. Thanks again. Hi, Think of it more like clear hair gel or Dippity Doo. The TEA is very weak, when I used demo it I would put it on my hand straight with no burns. A comparsion would be adding citric acid to lower a pH. The kewl thing is that when you have added enuough TEA, (which isn't much - you will want to use a dropper), you have gel so it is easy to " see " it thicken. Not enuf is still watery, right amount is gel, too much turns back water like. If you have your hands *covered in* the polymer powder for long periods of time it is somewhat irritating because the pH is only around 3 and causes itching. But I am talking about repacking a 40 pound box in 4 oz. quantities. If you get it on your hands in small amounts no problem and if you spill it the only way to clean it up easily is to scrape up what you can,wet it and add table salt to it or it just truns into gooey gel that takes days toget off. Guest guest
Hi Sage, Are you trying to thicken something or make a gel? There are other options too. Jen http://www.jenslab.com

Guest guest
I want to make a gel, but a friend is trying to make lotion that is not greasy and was told to use Ultrez 10. Hi, Ultrez 10 won't do anything to cut down on the greasies - it just gels/thickens. I did see on the Snowdrift site they have the Natrasorb Wheat Starch which will cut doen on the greasies. They also have Wheat Gel for making gels, (I think). Maybe Trina could comment more on her stuff:) Jen http://www.jenslab.com
