Guest guest
Okay, Dr. K emailed me and told me that all of the layers of the cast are water repellant impregnated synthetic fiber (liner, padding and cast). He didn't know if moleskin would be a good idea or not, but told me I could try it. I put moleskin on the three areas that had open sores and they are gone now. I am going to try putting him in the water and just replacing the moleskin. Luckily, I got moleskin every time we went there and haven't used any of it, so I have some that should last me a while. Also, I have noticed a HUGE difference in his mobility. BUT, I am not sure if it is due to the thinness of the cast or the fact that they trimmed him so much better this time. He is actually able to go down slides, climb and use playground equipment that he couldn't do before. I also have stopped hovering over him and that may be part of it too. I've been overly protective because of the cast, but I decided to let him go a bit on his own these past few days and he's doing a lot more now. So, it could be a combination of things. Anyway, I am gearing up to try the bath soon. I'll keep everyone posted! Noelle (12-2-01)Ian (8-15-04)
Guest guest
Jenn, Sounds like the new cast is working great for Ian. Marissa has her 2nd one put on next week, greater mobility would be a plus for her too. She is very often frustrated by the difficulty it takes for her to do certain things such as get up from a tumble. Also, I've noticed her underarms have taken a beating from the cast. Wrinkled skin, but no sores. Maybe they can trim a little more this time. Let us know how the bathing goes, seems like you are now happier with this waterproof cast versus earlier. The petals seem like a must.
