Guest guest
When someone asks me " what's wrong with you " , I reply " nothing " . (This is because I believe nothing is, I am not in denial, but CMT to me does not qualify as 'something wrong'. If someone askes me " did you hurt your foot " , I say " no " , because I didn't. For something short, I say " I have a balance and coordination problem as a result of a neurological disorder " . If they want to know which one, then I say " CMT " . I pull out cards I had made up with some Websites on them for people's education. And I alway's say " Don't worry, you can't catch it! " ...and with that I go on my way. Guest guest
The main reason I left the answers for the 2 questions my grandson will face the rest of his life; What is wrong with you? What is CMT? I believe the answers are different for each person and the circumstances(age, maturity level, teacher, classmates) What is wrong with you? At his age (8), I gotta problem with my nerves(this explanation will change as he grows up). He is very knowledgable when it comes to CMT but he knows to keep it simple. What is CMT? For the majority of the people who ask this question: The nerves weaken the muscles. For his teachers and others: I could explain it, but there are web sites that explain it better than I can, Here is one. http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/site/content/ If they don't have access to a computer, and we feel they are sincere we give them a copy of this: http://www.charcot-marie-tooth.org/site/content/whatiscmt/index.asp Another question he faces; What does the letters in CMT stand for? (The people that named this wasn't thinking of us). Initials of the 3 scientists that discovered it. , you handled it ok, don't bring yourself down to their level, ignore and move on. Good Luck, Sparkye
