Guest guest
Hi Joana, My Dad has cholesterol issues & because of CMT refuses to take statin drugs (muscle weakness can be a side effect). What he told me recently was really interesting. Apparently, when we have CMT, our body is continually trying to replenish the myelin sheath, and myelin is made up of cholesterol! Therefore, it would not be unusual for a CMT patient to have high cholesterol. I don't know what study it was that he's quoting. But his heart doctor now has some other tests that can predict heart problems & don't have anything to do w/cholesterol!
