Guest guest
Hi everyone. I am a 50 year old man with CMT. I have had problems with my feet since childhood and was diagnosed in 1993. I am currently using a wheelchair and an electric scooter to get around and have some problems with my hands. I have two brothers and a sister who have either been dxd with CMT or have symptoms. Neither of my parents, grandparents nor any of my aunts, uncles or cousins have had any noticable symptoms. I have no children myself but I do have several nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews and none of them have shown symptoms as of yet. Does anyone else have this anomaly? My siblings and I have gotten CMT fairly severely and yet there seems to be no sign of it in generations prior or later. I have heard there is a type which may manifest itself where both parents carry the recessive gene. My parents are both of Irish and Scotch Irish ancestry and there may be a common ancestor although none can be found in the three or four generations that I can trace. Somewhere I heard that CMT is common among those with some Norman ancesrty due to the intermarriage of Normans during the 12th and 13th century. There are several Norman originated names in my family tree. I am not sure of its validity as I have not read it anywhere or have heard of that since. Anyone who might enlighten me on any of these issues please do so. Thank you, Tom
