Guest guest
Hi Gretchen and everyone: Thanks so much for your support...I agree, I think somehow he's internalized alot of this and it's coming out other ways. We do have Aunt Scarlett's farm and had read it to him last summer...but you've a good point..we should go back to it. did a wonderful job with her book. His Integration support advisor said previously she could talk to the class about what AFOs were...maybe he needs to see that they are a normal part of life for some people. I'll sit down with him and try to talk about what's happening at school. A number of people have asked about bullying. Oddly enough, at least 3 of the kids in his class are so supportive they help him put on his AFOs, try them on for fun themselves, and one says she holds his hand to help him run faster when he's tired...another boy (the biggest in the class...a gentle giant) told me that he knows Gav's muscles are a bit weaker so he's careful not to knock him over...but then it only takes one bad apple. His teacher's are extremely supportive. We've had alot of doctor's appts recently, so maybe I should talk to him about that too...He needs to know it's not his fault, just his normal and that's ok... I'll check out that goodnites site , thanks and your link Gretchen. We're going to have a meeting with his Integration support advisor and teachers next week to try to strategize ways to help him focus better. On reflection it seems amazing that we all focused on the emotional affects of this on Rob and I, but not on Gavin himself. Its' so great having you all out there! Thanks Sally
