Pelvic Imbalance?

My wife seems to suffer from an imbalance in the pelvic area and suffers

considerable pain. She is constantly being told by her health care provider

that she is " Out " . I seem to remember Dr. Siff and a few other listers

discussing an imbalance in this area. Can someone either guide me to a

reference or provide me with some information on this problem?

[What exactly does this health provider mean by a pelvic " imbalance " and

by being " out " ? This sounds ominously like the guruspeak of some applied

kinesiologists or chiropractors and needs to be carefully elaborated upon. Mel

Joe (Littleton),

I hope you've already found the answers you needed for your wife's sake,

because I've been there done that, and it's a pain in the butt, literally and

figuratively!

Her problem may be the SI (sacroiliac) joint. If the SI joint is rotated, it

can compress nerves through that area. Normally, this joint should have

minimal motion, but it can be accommodating...childbirth for example.

Since your wife is able to get relief with manipulation, she probably needs

some balance between stability and mobility (wonderful catch phrases of the

fitness industry) of the musculature of the entire region. An x-ray of the

area could rule out more serious problems.

Many women need to strengthen the pelvic floor musculature. A combination of

stretching, postpartum exercises, and abdominal/back/hip exercises would

probably help.

After trying physical therapy without success, I designed my own " rehab "

program, which included the above mentioned exercises. I have since gone

through a pain free pregnancy (labor/delivery wasn't pain free). :)

Ultimately, it seems as though your wife's health care provider should give

you more a more detailed explanation of the diagnosis.

Best of luck,
