Guest guest
Hi Gretchen, Thank you for your recommendations. I will see what other suggestions might come in from the Canadian side of the border. Otherwise, according to your information, it seems we should definitely pursue a meeting/appointment with one or all of the doctors you have suggested. Will keep you posted as we go forward. Yes, it is a good sign that our son seeks greater insight into his own situation. With time, he may soon be 'posting' to you, himself! Guest guest
Debbie, I live near Hamilton, Ontario and my specialist here is listed below. Mark is a wonderful man and very knowledgeable about CMT. He has wrote some articles for DMA in the US and has conducted studies on various possible treatments of CMT. Anyways hope this helps still in Canada although further then your area to the US. Please let me know if you need more information. Mark Tarnopolsky, MD, PhD, FRCP©, 4U4 Dept of Neurology, McMaster University Medical Center, 1200 Main St. W., Hamilton, Ontario, CANADA, L8N 3Z5 1-905-521-2100 (76593)
Guest guest
Debbie, Are you near Vancouver? Have you seen a neurologist there? There's a good EMG lab at VGH Willow pavillion. I'd recommend Dr. Mezei. She's not specifically a CMT specialist, but does specialize in hereditary neurological diseases if I recall correctly. Fred. Guest guest
Hi , Thank you for your recommendation. Although Hamilton is quite a distance from Vancouver, compared to Seattle, it is within Canada - definitely an advantage with respect to healthcare expenses! It may turn out that Dr. Tarnopolsky knows of a CMT specialist here in the west. Otherwise, we may travel your way to see him. Meanwhile, we will see if other recommendations come in from other Canadian CMT patients... Will keep you posted, Debbie
Guest guest
Hi Fred, Yes, we do live in Vancouver, and yes, we have been to a neurologist here - Dr. Keyes at St. 's Hospital. Our son was referred by Dr. Roland, who is the neurologist at Children's Hospital who first diagnosed him. Dr. Keyes is very good, and is informed with respect to CMT. But, it is not his specialty, from what I understand... It is my son who is requesting the CMT specialist, thus, I have undertaken to do some research for him. Once I am armed with further information, I will contact Dr. Keyes to ask his advice as to where we should proceed from here. Thank you for your recommendation of Dr. Mezei. I will definitely keep her in mind. Debbie

Guest guest
Hi : Thanks for this contact info...we're in Ottawa and may at some point want to consult a neurologist with more direct CMT experience. Our doctor here at CHEO is very good but they don't have alot of CMT kids at the neuromuscular clinic. Cheers Sally
