Guest guest
I am FREAKING out right now. Dr. Khoury just spoke with me and you won't believe what they found on his x-ray!! Ian has swallowed something that appears to be a quarter and it is stuck in his bowels. Dr. K is EXTREMELY concerned especially since Ian has lost 3 lbs in weight. He said we need to get him into a surgeon tomorrow to be evaluated. He says it appears that it has been there a while and that he feels it may be too large to pass on its own. I am waiting for the pediatrician to call me back with the name of a surgeon. I stink! I let him play with money all the time. I guess I get the bad mommy of the century award today. The good news is that his curve is down to 11 degrees! That is a 5 degree improvement. He does think there are still some rotation issues, so he said we're definitely going to do one more cast, but then we are looking at a brace after that. That is great news, but it's a bit overshadowed right now by this freaking coin. He also said that the GI doctor could evaluate him better for a hernia than he could, so I guess that sort of works out. Guest guest
oh my gosh! i would be freaking out also. at least they found it. will he have surgery near you guys or in erie? does this mean that they put him under anaesthesia, took an out of cast x-ray, found the coin, and now won't cast him? i'm confused, as you can tell. deshea ---- Original message ---- >Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 11:17:38 -0400 >From: " Claflin " <noellesmommy@...> >Subject: You guys won't believe this! > " infantile scoliosis " <infantile scoliosis treatment > > > I am FREAKING out right now. Guest guest
Well, he is going to be seen here by a Gastrointestinal doctor (once I get a name from my pediatrician I am supposed to make an appt.). Dr. K doesn't know if he can pass it on his own or not...I am not sure why, but he seems to think it has been there a while and that it is stuck. Yes, they found it when they took his out of cast x-ray. They still casted him. Luckily, if it does need to be removed, it looks like they can use something called an endoscope to suck it out rather than doing surgery (although it does mean sedation again). If it would happen to get stuck in the intestines, then they have to do actual surgery. Of course, this is just stuff that I read on the internet, so I guess I will see what the GI says. Guest guest
thanks for clarifying that! i hope they can get it out the less invasive way. who knows maybe the gi doc thinks it might come out on its own or has another method of getting it out? i have no idea, but perhaps no surgery will be involved. let us know what you find out. also, i meant to say in my previous e-mail that i'm glad his #s are coming down and he'll be in a brace soon. deshea ---- Original message ---- >Date: Tue, 26 Sep 2006 12:38:33 -0400 >From: " Claflin " <noellesmommy@...> >Subject: Re: You guys won't believe this! ><infantile scoliosis treatment > > > Well, he is going to be seen here by a > Gastrointestinal doctor (once I get a name from my > pediatrician I am supposed to make an appt.). Guest guest
Don't feel bad, I let my 3 year old play with money all the time as well and thought she never put it in her mouth. You can't completley watch them all the time! Hopefully the GI spec will be able to figure out how to get it out w/o too much trouble. Good luck That is wonderful news on his curve- that is great improvement!! Hang in there and keep us posted. and Evan Claflin <noellesmommy@...> wrote: I am FREAKING out right now.
