Guest guest
Hi , Yes! Sonny has been an artist. Endless drawings on page after page after page - he used to get through hundreds of notebooks. Lots of his sketches were exactly the same though. Then he discovered the joys of drawing on walls and managed to draw a detailed map of our part of London all over one side of hallway wall! Thankfully, he just sticks to paper now but this was an obsession that petered out like all the others. Love xx Drawing drawing drawing... Has anyone been through the "artist" phase? My daughter can't stop drawing. Its like a compulsion.Lately she has been drawing on the floor, walls, and herself. She has come home with some lovely marker doodles on her shirt. When I remove all writing instruments (hard to do because she is 6 and has homework) she will improvise. She drew with her mashed up snack on my windows today. She took apple slices and used them as a "pen" on my table. She draws like a maniac on her schoolwork, and gets home and still can't control the urge. She ruined 2 pairs of her shoes and several toys because she couldn't STOP drawing. She'll use shampoo, chapstick and even water when I hide the pens/pencils/markers/crayons. She draws people and letters, and if I stop her in mid stream, she freaks out. She MUST finish and she just gets more detailed and detailed and frantic.Anyone had this glorious experience? Is this Autism related? What IS this and how do I help her through it? I've heard of hypergraphia but this is unique, she has problems writing and weak hands, but just won't STOP.Thanks- StoeckerMom to Sophie, the Unique, Autistic Miracle God gave to me."Its hangin' on when your heart has had enoughIts giving more when you feel like giving upI've seen the lightIn my daughter's eyes"-a McBride__________ NOD32 1.1454 (20060321) Information __________This message was checked by NOD32 antivirus system.http://www.nod32.com
Guest guest
, our grandson, Karac, went through this for several months. He has written all over everything, including his white bedroom furniture with an ink pen. I don't know why he stopped. I have a friend who is an art therapist, and she has started coming on Sunday morning before church and working with Karac for an hour doing all kinds of art projects. He looks forward to it, and it has a very calming effect on him. I am wonderinf if that had anything to do with his loss of interest in drawing all over everything. I will be interested in how you resolve this problem. blessings, Pat K

Dear , My grandson Elliot began to draw rather obsessively at a young age and we were quick to provide a place and materials to accommodate same. Today he is a rather accomplished artist having had a real show and enjoys good sales of his work. These monies are going into a trust account for his future. Might I suggest that you encourage Sophie's efforts and foster whatever talent she might exhibit very carefully. You might be surprised at the results....we were. Guest guest
If you’re still trying to get the ink off, hairspray breaks it down. Was able to get permanent marker off the paneling with it. Tonya Re: Drawing drawing drawing... , our grandson, Karac, went through this for several months. Guest guest
Tonya, you are so smart! I immediately got my can of spray net and went upstairs to check it out. It works; so now I have to go buy several cans because the little bit of spraynet that I have will not be enough. Thanks, LOL, Pat K

Guest guest
Not really, my mom is a hairdresser and the ladies that use hairspray need their colors redone more often. Guest guest
If you go to a beauty supply, you can buy a gallon cheap. Seems the cheap stuff works best. I also use it to preserve dried flowers. Tonya Re: Drawing drawing drawing... Tonya, you are so smart! I immediately got my can of spray net and went upstairs to check it out. Guest guest
Thanks for the tip; I have a beauty supply place right next to my grocery store. Now if I can just get Karac to let me cut his hair! smile I was able to get him to cut the gum out of his hair. I think some kid at school put it in his hair to be mean. Guest guest
Hi Pat, Well, maybe - who knows??!! ((smile)). I have had such a lovely few days. I am lucky enough to have a very supportive ex mother-in-law (Sonny's gran) who has looked after him for a few days while I have just completely chilled out. Bless her! I feel so much more relaxed and I do not know what I would do without her. But - alas! - back to work tomorrow...........batteries re-charged. Trying to catch up with all the posts over the weekend which should take me a while. In the meantime, I hope everyone is OK. Kat - you called me a sweetie over a week ago and I only just read the post! Have been meaning to say thank you!! Hugs, xx Re: Drawing drawing drawing... , a detailed map of London is impressive. Guest guest
If we say “haircut” our son goes into a meltdown. If we say “trim” he will sometimes sit still for it. Big bribes help too! Guest guest
Tonya, I hadn't thought about how "cut" must sound to an autistic kid who takes things so literally. We can't ask Karac if he wants a "bite". because he thinks we are asking to bite him. We have to say do you want a taste. Karac cut his own hair and it looks great!! Guest guest
That’s wonderful! Another thing that works with Garrett is to let him choose if he wants his hair trimmed with scissors or the clippers. He usually chooses the scissors. Tonya Re: Drawing drawing drawing...
