Guest guest
Has anyone been through the " artist " phase? My daughter can't stop drawing. Its like a compulsion. Lately she has been drawing on the floor, walls, and herself. She has come home with some lovely marker doodles on her shirt. When I remove all writing instruments (hard to do because she is 6 and has homework) she will improvise. She drew with her mashed up snack on my windows today. She took apple slices and used them as a " pen " on my table. She draws like a maniac on her schoolwork, and gets home and still can't control the urge. She ruined 2 pairs of her shoes and several toys because she couldn't STOP drawing. She'll use shampoo, chapstick and even water when I hide the pens/pencils/markers/crayons. She draws people and letters, and if I stop her in mid stream, she freaks out. She MUST finish and she just gets more detailed and detailed and frantic. Anyone had this glorious experience? Is this Autism related? What IS this and how do I help her through it? I've heard of hypergraphia but this is unique, she has problems writing and weak hands, but just won't STOP. Thanks - Stoecker Mom to Sophie, the Unique, Autistic Miracle God gave to me.
