Guest guest
Hi we have been to cyprus, spain, maderia, antigua, florida and crete doing gfcf and it takes some planning but we have always managed - people have dairy and gluten intolerances in these countries too ! I have found provamel products ( Charlie loves vanilla puddings) in supermarkets throughout Europe. I pack gluten free pasta, bread and biscuits just in case - and any treats Charlie likes like the teddy sweets. I have never ever had a problem with customs. Charlie likes plain oven cooked chicken and we have managed to get this - or chicken kebabs with no seasoning or dressing - everywhere. Get your travel company to help you - I usually contact my travel company before I even get there and ask them to find the location of your nearest health food store before you even arrive. When we went to florida I ordered food on-line and the reps collected and then delivered it to us. It makes a big difference who you are travelling with and what accomodation you have. We did a really nice hotel in Maderia and the guest services lady organised a meeting with the chef - plus translator so he could prepare just what we wanted. Obviously each hotel's different but accept that it will just be different and you will be fine ! In Spain hubby bought a toaster for our hotel room which we hid ( obviously no cooking in the room) and did Charlies very dry bread for him. We just left it there when we left. It cost the equivalent of about a twenty quid but worth every penny to keep Charlie happy and eating.... Just keep an open mind and be imaginative and GET THE TRAVEL COMPANY WORKING FOR YOU !!! Our lady in Cyprus loved the challenge and even drove 6 miles for us to track down some milkwhen we got stuck. You'll be fine regards Deborah
Guest guest
Hi Do any of you have experience of going abroad with supplements, food, ...and the family. We are going to Menorca in Aug for 1 week and I'm panicking big time about how to pack a suitcase of supplements, rice milk, GFCF pasta etc. Not sure if customs allow you to take stuff through? Booked this months ago before we started to see Jean and kind of regretting it now.... is making good gains in sociability, eye contact, 'with it ness' and a lot more babble (he is 6 yrs) Also a lot more focussed and conc. at school better. We are getting near the end of sorting out the gut which will obviously be an ongoing thing, tweaking various things now and then its MB12 shots and TTFD ... I really dont want to lose the positive gains that we've made already by maybe having to go supplement free for a week plus worried about how much GFCF food we can get over there? Any comments very gratefully received Thanks Helen X
Guest guest
Hi Helen, We have travelled quite a few times with food and supplements and medications and creams for eczema etc and we have had no problem. We were supposed to have a doctor's letter to carry Epipens on board a plane but we had forgotten but they didn't seem to bother at the check in. If in doubt carry any doctor's letter detailing your child's condition. Guest guest
Hi Helen, I have traveled all over the place and never had any problems with taking food or supplements. I think they usually look at on and feel sorry for us and wave us through! However I have had a letter from Dr Heard before when taking syringes on a plane and they were fine about it. Perhaps could write you a letter to explain that he is on a strict diet. Probably won’t be a problem now with the ban lifted on british beef, that was what they were worried about. Guest guest
Thanks Deborah and Sally Blimey hadn't even thought of syringes.... but will prob be on MB12 shots by then (if we ever get rid of these gut bugs)so a letter from someone is a must have! Could you imagine if they got confiscated having spent all that money not to mention having to stop the treatment immed. I'd just scream! BTW the next full moon is on June 11th as I know someone was asking....Never thought I'd be looking in my diary for lunar cycles. Biomed sure changes everything! Cool bag is a great idea, could squish it into more places too. Thanks Helen > > > > Hi Helen, > > > > I have traveled all over the place and never had any problems with taking > food or supplements. Guest guest
Hi Helen We are off to Menorca too for a couple of weeks in August. I usually have an extra suit case full of things like gluten free bread/pasta/cereal/supplements/bread crumbs, MB12 syringes. I carry on a cool bag with all the liquids eg rice milk etc. Never been asked about the syringes but I carry the prescription with me from Dr Usman just in case. I get my dh to carry the cool bag cos it weighs a ton! We self cater so that we can cook up things for .
