Guest guest
> > Since I am new to NP, my delights were were vetiver & labdanum. . i feel the same about both of these, and know that there are a lot of delights to be discovered along the way, up ahead, just around the corner. it's great to be " new " to something, even though i grew up surrounded by flowers and beautiful native plants...i'm from Lompoc, California, " the flower seed capital of the world " ....! : )..so i feel like this is a rediscovery of something that was there all along...does that make sense to people? for instance, when i found a photo of cistus online, i remember seeing it, smelling it, touching it as a child. so somehow, this whole adventure is a kind of coming home, a rediscovery as well as a discovery. i'm truly glad to find a group where i can share these thoughts and learn from people who are further down the road but still seem to share the joy of exploration and learning. cecile

Guest guest
I've had a few great new essences, but the most amazing of all is the coffee flower absolute I got from White Lotus. It has a wonderful jasmine-like,narcotic fragrance which is surprisingly light. There is a coffe scent in the middle of it, which is so charming. I made a perfume out of it with jasmine, myrrh, cognac, coffee co2, and vanilla. I wear it all the time. I also found the lovely blue lotus concrete from Samara and a deep, rich flouve absolute. The coffe flower, though, must be experienced. It is one of the best florals I have ever smelled. Fong

Guest guest
Crazy busy, so I'm way behind on responding to interesting threads. Part of the delay was my need to ponder if I'd discovered any new stuff this year that really knocked me out. On the contrary, the oils I'm most pleased with are the ones you'd least expect. After years of never really liking the lavender oils I've sourced it seemed there'd be nothing to lose in trying US distilled oils. What have I been waiting for? Marcia's Pacific Northwest blend is delightful [samara Botane]. Sandy [Rivendell] goes that one further by offering cultivar specific distillations in addition to her own estate blend. Of all things to be picking for a best of '07 -lavender! But that's what really seduced me. If Marcia has a second she can tell me/us if the concretes special was in 07 or 06 (time flies whether you are having fun or not). From that particular set of scents the white lavender and tobacco were big faves with me. Not new to me, just a lot better than I'd enjoyed in the past. NEW TOPIC! White ginger lily -who's got it? Can't seem to find it any more. Artemesia tridentata? Galangal? Some past favorites for me that I'm flat out of and missing terribly. All the best for Three Kings Day! I just finished tincturing some, and it is beautiful. Of course, not every spice can be tinctured or macerated effectively, but some can, and I find it fun to experiment. Guest guest
Hello Everybody, I think that there were a few new aromatics that tied for first this year. My mother gave me an old vial of Bulgarian rose absolute (gorgeous red orange) in a small carved wooden flask. The flask is wooden, about three inches tall and 1/2 " in diameter, hand-painted with a red rose, and the cap is a dome. She found it at a thrift store. The fragrance is so deep and beautiful. It makes me feel proud to smell it - all that summer light and life in one small bottle. My other favorite fragrance was the pineapple sage/pineapple quince codistilled hydrosol - smells like honey, vanilla, pineapple - incredibly strong for a hydrosol....It's been a good year. Much Kindness, Jess Ring >
