Guest guest
Although I do not classify myself as a Freudian per se, it's always been pretty clear to me that dreams and nightmares is the method that our subconscious uses to try to process the events, including stresses, traumas, anxieties and joys in all of our lives. I often find that when people describe their dreams or nightmares, it is usually not too difficult to connect the symbols or themes (no matter how odd) to things that are currently happening, or have happened in the past, in that person's life. There are also certain themes that are almost universal in dreams: e.g. the " anxiety " or " stress " dream where your back in grammar or high school without any clothes on, or you realize that half the school year has passed and there's a class or two that you havn't been to at all.... Just one example... Anyway, as far as CMT is concerned, I'm sure most of us experience a lot of anxiety related to it: will the progression accelerate? How will I handle it if/when I lose the ability to walk independently? to draw? paint? work? etc. And then there's the fear of medical procedures that is common throughout society but which folks with CMT may have to confront on a more frequent basis : needles, sugeries, EMG's.... Surely most of us probably have had some pretty distressing or odd dreams and nightmares!! This group offers a great opportunity, for those who feel comfortable, to process their dreams or nightmares with others who share similar anxieties. It may be helpful to do so, because many of us may have already courageously survived these fears. Thanks for the comments on this topic. - Marti
