Here is an interesting article about the greening of corporate

America, and how we all fit in to that with the new *standards* being

created.

Companies highlighted include Burts Bees....Tom's of Maine and

Burts Bees have Hit Hay and are in a store next to the gallery.... I would

think a massive marketing is going on. Janita

yes, not surprised.....about that. how long have they been in your area?

this is something to watch to see how the big boys do it....right?

is it politics?

do they buy their way in?

or are they in alignment somehow miraculously with that new UK

initiative...it's mind boggling.

thanks for clarifying,

>> giggle Hay on Wye.... hardly London more like Notting Hill in the country

LOL

is it politics?

do they buy their way in?

HI L *:-D

they have major craft fairs 2-3 times a year in the major cities... London

Birmingham... where all the prospective buyers go and see the suppliers in a

huge place where they have stands and see what they want to stock in their

shop..... as per berts bees in Hay if you click on this then click on Chattels

that is the shop it is in...it will open up .... a gift shop with lots of

different things....thus the name <G>

http://www.hay-on-wye.co.uk/views/index.htm

the shop is next to the gallery and they (staff) constantly come in and see

what we are doing then copy it cheaply... ie when I was doing the box soaps and

perfume in Hay and was the first one and selling like hotcakes. chattels came

along and started to do them LOL>.. we laugh it off as we tend to be high end...

and with the perfumes now they try do the same... except they have been trying

for years to get a little closer to what I have been doing ... and so now french

companies, and burts bees.... I am happy that they are at least looking for more

naturals.... the company was sold on last year so Sheila no longer comes and

peers at my stuff.... she can't anyway as I have very little out at present

LOL.... too busy starting my project at last.

or are they in alignment somehow miraculously with that new UK

initiative...it's mind boggling.

It is a compliment........back in the early nineties, i made

presentation to urban outfitters, and their buyers ended up taking my

samples to china and having my exact products copied, for

cheaper...they weren't the same thing, of course, but they were

determined to do my design cheaper.

i took it as a learning lesson, but made the same mistake a few other

times with other large chains.

finally i learned that i am an artist, not as much interested in mass

production as in creating my line as an art...form...for me...and

thus, have attracted people in my sphere who love custom and haute

couture scent...and have proceeded accordingly, and over the years

have found a niche.

I think it is more important than ever in the changing world we live

in to find your niche.

hehe....thanks for sharing..
