Hi Jeannine, I have had knee problems for 34 years now. Ever since I dislocated

it when I was in 9th grade. And again about 10 years later. 2 years ago I fell

(so what's new) and landed on my knee. I Bruised it an was in a imobelizer for 6

weeks. The day I came out I tripped over a vaccum cord and tore my Maniscus

tendon. It was repaired by arthroscopic surgery. Are you seeing an Orthopedic

Surgeon. I would suggest you get a second opinion. Keep me informed. Martha

, I also suffer from painful knees espec. the left knee, its the

worse. My knees will buckle and cause me to fall. Since I have fallen

so much over the years,I now have painfully swollen knees which makes

walking almost impossible to do.My dr said I have a slight tear in my

knee & that surgery will not help at all. Has anyone ever heard of

this? I am thinking of getting a scooter as I have been housebound

for a very long time. Jeannine

I am having knee surgery since an MRI showed I had a torn meniscus. I also

have a little arthritis there too. If I roll the wrong way in bed the pain

will wake me up.

Meniscus tears

Causes and Risks:

The meniscus is a C-shaped fibrous cartilage that is found in certain joints

forming a buffer between the bones. The meniscus also serves as a

shock-absorption system, assists in lubricating the joint, and limits the

joint flexion and extension.

Meniscal tears are most commonly caused by twisting or hyperflexion of the

joint. Prevention:

Use proper technique when exercising or playing sports. Many cases of

meniscus tears may not be preventable.

tore my meniscus on a vacuum cleaner cord. had arthroscopic surgery. I am fine

now. It is a pretty easy surgery. Listen to your therapist and do your

excercises. Good Luck!!!!!
