Guest guest
Hey guys, I have recently jotted down some personal notes for creating a formula; however, I require some Copal Oil, but my supplier doesn't have any. In fact, she says she's never even seen any, before. But, I'm sure I've seen it, so I know is must be extent. So...I was wondering if anyone, here, might know of a supplier that's sells Copal Oil (if not some sort of liquid copal-based botanical!). I really don't want to use incense... But, my understanding of the term Copal is that it is not specific to one botanical classification but is used to denote an older resin (yet younger and softer than an amber). That may be why your supplier was having trouble with it. So you would not find Copal Oil per se, but would find various oils that are distillations of resins from different species of trees. If you don't want to use incense, I would think you could try Copaiba Balsam from South America, which is distilled from the resin. Both Eden Botanicals and White Lotus Aromatics carries it, and it's very inexpensive. Good luck! Guest guest
I have some black copal which I tinctured in alcohol. You could obtain some and do the same in jojoba oil or some other stable carrier if you wanted an oil-based concoction. You can purchase black, white, or golden copal -- it is used frequently in incense. Check out this website: http://www.makeincense.com/p527.html You could order some from here: http://www.thepurplepeople.com/resins/copal.html or here, although they appear to only carry the white variety: http://www.mountainroseherbs.com/candle/resins.html I have never come across a genuine distilled copal oil. However, if your supplier knows you're interested, they may be motivated to track some down or to have their suppliers start distilling it (if possible). Good luck!
