Guest guest
Yet another reason not to bottle feed...and to think that the whole sorry mess goes back to an overly effective campaign by artificial baby milk manufacturers...the power of advertisement does boggle the mind... I wonder if this as a reason behind the natural versus artificial scent debate... Our sense of smell is very strong as babies..and we identify our mothers more by smell than sight (since a babies sight is a bit fuzzy) So if we are biologically programmed to connect our mothers smell as she feeds us (which is a babies other first obsession)...do we now have a few generations in the western world which connect feelings of love and security with the combined smell of human pheromones, artificial plastic bottles and rubber teats? None the less, I for one had need of bottles in addition. I used glass bottles, to feed mine when I wasn't available, I filled bottles with milk I produced. I've read the affection for vanilla springs from the whiff of vanilla inherent in human milk. I never did experience a useful breast pump, but found it easiest to milk myself, just like I would a cow. Interestingly when babies are born, taste buds align the sides of the mouth. These don't remain, but at birth they are present and of course encourage natural eating. I don't think we've had enough generations of formula fed babies to have established an acquired taste for synths, though it's an interesting consideration for generations ahead. I cannot fathom the grief of mother's with insufficient water and food to themselves produce milk for their young. I'm pleased the study was done, there's a serious shortage of wet nurses everywhere for those who need one. We need to know what the safest possible alternatives are, I'd bet big bucks those who unknowingly exposed their babies to risk are both appalled and grateful to have the knowledge now. I took my son to a doc when he was 4 months for a checkup, who wanted me to ,no joke, feed him less, because he felt he was overweight at 4 months! He'd never had anything but human milk, no cereal, no formula, no food etc. I said no, people are different sizes, but breast fed babies lose their excess on their own, he's fine. He gave me a lecture about fat being fat. We finished with my thoughts, you sir, are an ass. I arranged a different doctor. The son is 23, he's trim and fit as can be and was throughout childhood. Sometimes we have to be awful assertive just to defend natural ways on more than one front. ( no pun intended) Patti Patti

When she gets ill the doctors are always baffled by her incredibly strong immune system... She never liked cows milk for the longest time... I go for the motto 'breast is best' most def.
