Guest guest
Sorry Anne, I didn't mean to depress you by posting the real age website. Did you read the suggestions on the website on how to improve your health? They are pretty good. Don't give up and say things like "why bother" You're worth it! That's why you should "bother." I think it's great you are working out and taking steps to become healthier! The test says I'm 35 (I'll be 39 in Feb) but I FEEL about 26. I work out, I have a positive attitude most the time and have hope which I think makes me appear more youthful. Hugs to Anne,Anne Langston <annemargomsn> wrote: I'm 53, according to that. Guest guest
Thanks Jen, , Carolyn, and everyone else who offered encouragement! I've given myself a good shake and am going forward. I think I need to clarify the "why bother" comment; believe it or not, I've been exercising regularly and eating a healthy diet for 7 years now. I don't smoke, am at a healthy weight and drink only occasionally. I thought I had no risk factors for a heart attack, MOF I walked around with angina for two days before the main event because I knew I couldn't be having heart trouble! When my friends, family and co-workers called the hospital, one of the first things they said was "how could this happen to you, you're so health conscious!" After the heart attack, I was very depressed and feeling as if everything I'd done was no use. I've tried to work through that, I guess I'm not quite over that feeling. But! I'm continuing with the things that I can control, and hoping for the best with the things I can't control. Thanks again, everyone, for your support. Guest guest
Anne, I had the SAME feeling when I was told I had breast cancer! I had just turned 37, was at a decent weight for my height (a little high but not horribly), ate mostly lean meats, veggies, whole wheat bread and pasta and very few things with additives and preservatives, etc. People said the same thing to me, how could I, who really did watch my health, be diagnosed with breast cancer, especially so young, and I wondered if I could have done anything differently. My doctors assured me that although they don't know what causes it, they also know that my lifestyle was overall quite healthy and they couldn't see anything that might be a real risk factor. Because, at the time, I didn't know my family history, (I was adopted at birth under closed adoption laws and have recently been reunited with my birth mother though) I had a genetic test done and was negative for the issues associated with higher risk of breast cancer and I know now there is no history of it in my family. It was VERY frustrating but I realized, like you, that it made even less sense to give up trying to live as healthy a lifestyle as I could (without becoming obsessed with it), after all, I still have a lot of living to do and I want to enjoy it as much as possible!!! :-) Glad to hear you're shaking off the quiz, just like you shook off the negative attitude after your heart attack, that's awesome!
