I know but rewarding... and making some stock.... so not much accords going on although I do scribble ideas in a notebook and have aline of oils waiting for me to attend to and evaluate as ideas in motion. and all in all it is very very happy... although I am very analysing.....in everything I do...and I think in perfume pretty much through the day.... so getting like my singing a bit like breathing. with every good wish, Janita Janita Haan Perfumes --------------------------------- For Good. My wisteris is blooming beautifully for the first time in years due to late frosts...lost it all last year, so have been working on that, and making notes. My wonderful son got up on the roof Sunday nightto drap sheets over the whole vine, which covers 2 sides of the sun room, because as said we had a cold snap here in the midwest. Got down to 28 degrees Monday night Tuesday morning, after being in the 80's a few days before. I do spend more time talking about building accords, but am getting to spend more quality time being way more systematic in my evaluations. That would be Anya's class...great exercises to help direct the wandering ways. Also getting ready for my big show this weekend. (Sorry, that's why I missed class Sunday!) I read a lot, a few hours every night. My kids laugh as the bed is covered in books every night as I reference here and there on different aromatics, and botanicals. I have several work's in progress that fall into the " C " category and spill over into the other 3 all day. It seems like I am forever evaluating raw materials then building Accords then evaluating some more and then I am back to " C " and starting again. I am working on a study and comparative evaluation of Ambergris according to type and color of raw material so I have bottles of Ambergris everywhere as well as working on different extraction idea's for that wonderful material. There is an amazing range of odor value and complexity and so little information of any real value written that I can find. The White and Golden Ambergris is honey sweet and soft, White being the softest and Golden my personal favorite. Light Grey is potent and has the strong oceanic smell most of the old literature describes. And there are so many other colors, some soft and waxy, some dry and hard, and each one with a slightly different character. I do spend an exorbitant amount of time in my books as well with regards to referencing the materials I am working with. Mostly books like Arctander and Poucher's to find constituents and physical data but also referencing many other books and the Web just looking for ideas for the accords and different notes I am trying to achieve. All the while I am sampling and evaluating the raw materials... " which type of incense will give the right note? " sniff sample add three drops sniff sample, " Not that one! " LOL This goes on from maybe 8 am until 2 am almost every day. In short, I either need to get a life or maybe after years of dabbling I have finally realized my true passion. There can never be enough beauty in the world,
Guest guest
I don't mean books. a I'm talking about evaluating raw materials systematically with a written record (my students know what I mean.) b I'm talking about creating accords. c I'm talking about formulating perfumes in your mind. d I'm talking about creating perfumes. i go in phases of different avenues of creativity.so, for a few months i will concentrate more on music, then a few months on art, a few on photography, and then a few on perfumery (this is not counting some other pursuits). right about now i'm in a music phase, finishing a CD. so, currently: a-3hrs/week b-5hrs/month c-5hrs/week d-8hrs/month when i'm in perfumery mode (about 5 months per year): a-2hrs/day b-1hr/day c-?2hrs/day d-2-4hrs/day last time i was in perfumery mode was nov/dec 07. i spent all of 97,98,99 doing perfumery for 8+hrs/day. since we're on the subject of time i do feel the need to mention that this list takes up a lot of my perfumery time. i really appreciate the discourse but sometimes i feel that we could keep it all on topic a bit more and especially respond privately when it's appropriate (such as " i saw that movie too " .) i and i imagine quite a few others just don't have the time to read every single post but i know there are so many gems mixed in... blessings and good cheer, crystal

But I guess we could all, including me, use a reminder that if your topic veers off of the natural perfumery topic, to add an " O/T " in the subject line and change the subject line if necessary to reflect the changing topic. This is an educational discussion group, but a certain amount of " chat " keeps it friendly and fun. Patty, NP Moderator
