Guest guest
< They smelled great in the evenings and mornings and the one time I was out in the middle of the night (letting the dogs out!) I got an amazing blend of the tuberoses, frangipani from the nearby trees and my lady of the night brassavola orchid. I am writing now because I have one more bloom spike coming up from the tuberoses, I may have to set my alarm since the puppy is now making it through the night pretty regularly. Elise http://www.tambela. com> Wow, that sounds incredible. I remember walking through the plumeria grove in the evenings at the retreat center that I stayed in on Hawaii. MMMmmm what a fragrance. Actually you could smell the fragrance several yards from the grove. Tuberose leis were one of the first things I smelled when I got off the plane in Honolulu-and the lei shops were closed up! I've never had any luck with tuberoses. They are sold here as a summer bulb, but either I get no blooms or if I do, its so late in the season that I have to bring them in and disrupt the bloom cycle. I'm really frustrated because tuberose is one of my favorite fragrances. I remember I bought about three or stalks once at a farmers market, brought it home and put it in my room and you could smell it by the front door! By the way, where do you live Elise? You can obviously grow tropical flowers(lucky you).

And I love the tropical plants - am also addicted to orchids. Are we all still meeting? The Mango Festival would be fun. I bought my bulbs from Tennessee Tuberoses (http://www.tntuberoses.com) and they have done great so far. We'll see how they do in the heat. I lived in Hawai'i for awhile and nothing reminds me more of the islands than the scent of tuberoses...

I arrive next Friday. I'm going to the Mango Festival on Saturday and I'm going to be there till Wednesday the 15. That would be great if we can get together. Anya was going to send me her number, but I haven't got it yet. I went to the Lincoln Park Conservatory today. I kept saying " This is what my yard in Florida is going to look like. " ! I found another fragrant plant; brunflesia(?), otherwise known as yesterday, today, and tommorow. I'm familiar with the plant through books but I was not aware that the plant was fragrant. It has an astonishing " grapey " smell, similar to grape flavored candy or Kool-aid, it also reminded me of that Aussie shampoo! Another plant that I want to add to my tropical plant must-haves. I'm going to have to figure out how to get a lot of property in the tropics to grow all of the plants I want to! Now, if I could just get the next lotto numbers.... LOL! LOL! > There are a lot of different Brunfelsias, . Mine is B. lactea and it smells like spicy carnations. Called Queen of the Night. Other popular ones are Yesterday-Today-and-Tomorrow and Lady of the Night, etc. Not sure what variety you smelled. They are fragrant at night. Flowering like bonkers right now, and has been for a month. Of course I'm tincturing the flowers. -- Anya's Garden http://AnyasGarden.com - perfumes, aromatics, classes, consultation Natural Perfumers Guild + blog with daily updates 1500+ member Natural Perfumery group - /

I've seen the other types in the Logees Greenhouse catalog and they were described as being fragrant, but I was never aware that the yesterday-today-and-tommorow was fragrant. YTT is the most popular one - some find it too sweet, looks like it just hit the right note with you. I don't grow it because of its size. > > Did you still want to meet up when I come to Miami? > Sure - didn't you get my phone number I emailed the other day? I don't grow it because of its size.> Yes, I was quite fond of the fragrance. I thought it was unusual, and fruity-I seem to like those really sweet or fruity scents. > Sure - didn't you get my phone number I emailed the other day?
