Guest guest
Did you try using verticulite in the soil if not african violet roots need lots of space in the soil and they even can be grown hydroponically. Instead of just sitting the plants on the soil see if you can find plant wicking and thread a piece of the wick from the bottom of the pots into a container (cool whip, margarine etc..) with water and plant food and you never have to really worry about the african violets with getting water unless you have very curious therapy cats like I do. I hope it helps Arlene From: sweetsueohio2002@...Date: Wed, 6 Feb 2008 12:05:58 -0800Subject: OT! I need a horticulturist Will the African Violet Specialists please step forward? I transplanted my african violets into larger pots this week, and used Miracle Gro African Violet potting soil (The exspensive stuff). I put water in the trays that the pots sit in, the soil doesn't seem to be absorbing the water. I put gravel in the bottom of one pot to see if that would help, and have left the other as is, to see if there is any difference. I've never had this problem before. Guest guest
One important thing about African Violets best buy a bag of African Violet soil, otherwise you will fail, garden soil carries a lot of bacteria, and the plants, cannot fight off those organisms, We have a grower up here, he sells his magnificent plants and new breeds once a year.. I have been there, an awe inspiring spring trip. AnneDelicious ideas to please the pickiest eaters. Watch the video on AOL Living.
