Guest guest
No, I listen to my body and stop when I'm not hungry anymore. Eating a large lunch is a good idea but If I'm working from 4pm until after 11pm at night and it takes a half hour to drive home, I will be hungry no matter how much I eat. I guess I will just try having some soup when I get home so late because that should fill me up. Bringing a sandwich is a good idea if I had a normal job but my job isn't your typical job. I sit in the front of a college classroom (facing the class and the Deaf student) where I take turns (15 mins interpreting, 15 mins listening and helping my team etc...) so I don't want to bring something big like a sandwich and eat in front of the whole class like that. There won't be any breaks either because at that university the classes are back to back with only 10 mins between them to walk to the next class. I guess I will look for some low-cal protein bars to take and bring some cut up veges like celery. I guess I will have to figure out some way of breaking up my eating patterns so I eat smaller meals more often. Thanks for your ideas though, Jen nancydewolf <nancydewolf@...> wrote: Interesting.... perhaps you're not hearing your body say "hey, stop! I'm not satisfied/not hungry anymore"? A lot of people don't and have to learn to hear it. Or perhaps you're just an exception!! :-) I've heard that eating late doesn't help much. Can you make your main meal of the day (your large meal) your lunch and just make dinner a lighter one? That helps some people. Your schedule next semester sounds very difficult! Like I suggested above, perhaps have a big, filling lunch (with lots of healthy foods and whole grains, they're usually more long-term filling than the processed stuff) and then bring some healthy snacks with you? Some energy/protein bars are not much better than candy bars, lots of fat and calories so beware of those. Perhaps some on this list have good, healthy ones to recommend (I don't eat them so I don't know, I do get Weight Watchers Just 2 Points Bars at meetings but tend to abuse those because my favorite is chocolate peanut butter so I have to watch myself with them). Whatever you bring, make sure it is something you will enjoy eating otherwise you'll feel deprived and may want to eat more when you get home. Can you make sandwiches on whole wheat bread with tuna or chicken and bring those with you? Use some fat-free or low-fat mayo or mustard and it will give you energy, fill you up and give you good nutrition too. If you don't already have one, get a lunch box that will keep foods cold or get a cold pack to go inside one and bring cottage cheese mixed with pineapple or other things that you enjoy. Bananas, apples, oranges, grapes, etc. don't require refrigeration and fill you up plus give you energy and nutrition boosts too. These are just a few things that immediately come to mind. Think whole foods more so than processed "bars" and you'll get farther energy-wise, will have better weight loss and will be more filled so that you'll be less likely to hit the junk food machines too (that last one would be my problem and perhaps not yours). Re: / Weight Watchers TO and I must be the exception to the "eat slowly and you will not eat as much or you will be thin" rule. I have always ate slowly. The only time I eat half as fast as anyone else is when I'm starving. My problem is not exercising and eating too late at night or eating most of my meals later in the day or evening. I don't know what I will do next semester when I will be working from 4 pm to 11:15/11:45pm at night! I was thinking of bringing some cut up celery sticks and a couple of energy or protein bars. Do you have any suggestions? I know that I won't eat dinner before I leave because that's just too early for me to eat dinner. I can see already that we can all benefit from your wisdom!Yes, I eat WAY too fast and eating more slowly WILL solve the MMMMM! sensation that you get right away AND keep me from overeating since it takes 20 minutes before your tummy registers what you have eaten. I saw a slender, average looking woman on the bus the other day eat an apple. In the time it took her to eat 4 or 5 bites I would have cleaned the whole apple, core and all (luckily I prefer my veggies and fruits raw and don't like the dips as much). She chewed each piece MANY times, and I don't think she was counting, it was just her natural way of eating. She must have really savored that apple from it's taste to it's texture to its essence! Thanks for all the great tips! I agree the taste of slim tastes better than an extra slice of pizza most of the time! Hugs,
