Guest guest
*Avery Gilbert's new book on scent and culture - a great read!* ------------------------------------------------------------------------ First, the man: http://averygilbert.com Love the image of keys on his Author page - ref Turin's theory, lol. Second, his company: http://synesthetics.com/ Third: his new book, which I will be reviewing soon http://www.whatthenoseknows.com/ Laughing out loud at his witty and informative style - a must read for all perfumistas and nose-led folks! I'll have a review out mid-week. For those in the New York and Philly area, check out his Media/Events page. -------------------------- I posted the above an hour ago on several perfume forums to alert the perfumistas about this book. I was composing a more personal note here on the NP group, the Guild group, and for my students but was sidetracked by a bit of an excited shriek that escaped from my lips as I skimmed through the book for bits to quote here. I was on p. 16 reading about Turin and all the perfume writers who have since populated the internet, the NYT critic, and Avery Gilbert then mentioned several of the blogs - and Anya's Garden of Natural Perfumery was listed on p. 17! I had no idea and I'm chuffed, as Janita and our UK and AU friends would say. His take on natural botanical smells is funny, his recounting of the Veterans Administration study of the chemicals responsible for the scent of farts is hysterical, I never knew the side of Dickinson he revealed, on and on and on - the man is a fabulous storyteller and rarest of all, a scientist who truly connects with the layman/woman and makes the science interesting. It's been a great week for me on many levels, but I'm going to share here -- this mention really was the topper! ;-) -- Anya's Garden http://AnyasGarden.com - perfumes, aromatics, classes, consultation Natural Perfumers Guild + blog with daily updates 1500+ member Natural Perfumery group - /
