I advised that I had 4 kilos of Rose Absolute incoming .. turns out that I

was able to get ALL the producer had .. 12 kilos .. and along with what I

intended to keep for myself .. it was all sold. One buyer requested 16 oz

and paid for half the order .. but now that buyer has developed some cash

flow problems and wants out of the deal .. I have agreed to allow that

because their reason is EXTREMELY valid.

The Rose Absolute will be in our hands sometime today .. not sure what time

but certainly today.

I am offering this 16 oz to this group plus Natural Perfumers Guild and Oils

& Herbs .. so it will go quickly. However .. I will not sell it in one lot

... the largest lot offered will be 4 oz. Why? Because my expenses to get

it into our hands were far more than I had forecast .. far more than I have

ever paid before. In addition to all the normal price increases for

shipping, our greedy Freight Forwarder charged more for 30 minutes

processing work than the average American makes in one week .. so I want the

most profit I can get from this already under priced quality product. If

you think it is not under priced then just do a bit of shopping around for

other prices. ;-)

Lots of folks have been writing me asking for Rose Otto and Rose Hydrosol ..

I have been out of stock of both because of the bad harvest last year ..

they producers were not able to fill their standing contracts so I was able

to buy NONE.

The Rose Fields of Isparta have come to life again .. the Damask Rose (

damascena) harvest starts this week at the 700-800 meter level .. right

around the town of Isparta .. it will kick off above 1 km a couple of weeks

from now. Looks like it is gonna be a good one .. and about time it is

cause the last 2 years sucked! But there are fewer plants again .. the

town is growing because Demirel University is growing .. so they are

building more housing and the Rose Fields run right up to the town. Growing

Roses is a cash crop for villagers who are generally subsistence farmers ..

and its tough work .. and the smart farmers know they can make more selling

to developers than they can dealing with Roses.

Those of you who have known me a long time know that I have NEVER purchased

or offered a Rose Product that did not come directly from a Turkish producer

I knew well. I know these people because I lived over 26 years in Turkey ..

I stayed 19+ years on my last trip .. I just returned to the U.S.A. in July

07.

In the last 14 years or so I have purchased close to a million dollars of

Rose Otto, Rose Absolute and Rose Hydrosol from my two sources in Turkey.

Accordingly, they give me prices that even some of the major perfumeries

don't get because they consider me as not only a friend but also a reliable

source of distribution for their products.

Unfortunately, the last two years have resulted in far less production than

normal .. there was not enough Rose Otto produced from the 2007 Crop to fill

the demand.

I know my Turkish suppliers well and I trust them because they intend to

maintain a good reputation. They have millions of dollars tied up in their

infrastructure and can't afford to be other than professional. They are

the two largest producers in Turkey. I have asked them to reserve 10 kilos

each of Rose Otto (total 20 kilos) .. and 500 kilos each of Rose Hydrosol

(total 1,000 kilos) for me from the 2008 Crop. This might sound like a lot

of product it really isn't .. in years past I was able to get as much as 50

kilos of Rose Otto and 3-4 metric tons of the Rose Hydrosol each year .. and

it always sold out. A metric ton of Hydrosol is but 275 gallons .. some

buyers order 25 gallons at a time.

Both of these suppliers have said they will do their best to accommodate but

they must first fill their long term standing contracts. I believe that

either of them would give me priority if they could but they are

corporations with a Chairman of the Board and such, so the business dealings

are more tightly controlled than government business .. which I reckon is

not saying a lot. ;-) So it depends on the supply vs demand now.

WHEN I am assured that the crop will be sufficient and I will be able to

acquire what I need .. I will go forth with a pre order similar to this one

... for Rose Otto and Rose Hydrosol .. though my Back Order list for Rose

Otto will probably consume 5-6 kilos and for the Rose Hydrosol, if I had 150

gallons today it would be out the door tomorrow. ;-)

Oregano is gonna go up BIG TIME this year .. my FOB cost will be more than

my Wholesale prices are now .. reason for that is taxes. The Turkish

government started taxing the brokers who buy aromatic plants from the

village collectors .. its all wild grown and by law only the villagers can

harvest it .. but the government wants a share and they have determined that

its easier (and more politically advantageous) to tax the broker than it is

the villager .. though obviously the brokers will now pay the villagers less

for the product. Then they tax the distillers when they produce the

product and if they export it there is another tax. In country cost for

Oregano might be around the $150 a kg range this year.

So there is is .. if you plan to wait a couple of days to order this Rose

Absolute .. I can almost guarantee that I will have disappointing news for

you when you finally contact me. :-(
