Guest guest
This is a prolific group! It just took me the better part of the day to read this weeks posts. I have been getting them in digest format which means I download and read offline, it makes it harder to remember specific comments I want to make but here is a try; & Geri, , I'm glad your wife is in good hands. Geri is correct, waiting times are tied to health status. If your wife is stable and at home she will be a Status 3 which means she will have the mean waiting time. If she gets sicker, depending on the number of 'points' she has (as calculated by clinical findings and lab tests) she will move up to B2 and B1. ICU places someone in Status 1 and at the top of the list. The waiting times DO vary by region. Also by blood type. O/A types are the longest waits, B shorter, and AB the shortest. Florida where I am is considered to be a short wait. I am B+ blood type and I was on the list at status 3 for 2 1/2 months then a liver became available. I have heard differing views on AIH after transplant. I was told the AIH is inscripted in my DNA and therefore will attack my new liver BUT, prograf, the antirejection meds are immunosuppressants, anf therefore MOST persons with AIH do not have problems post-transplant. Organ rejection, the way I understand it, is clinically the same process as inflamation pre-transplant. The good news is that prograf, for me, has no side effects at correct dose (blood levels have to be monitored and it can be nasty at toxic blood levels). Most people don't have trouble getting stabilized. As to age and transplant, it used to be that 70 was a cut off age but that is no longer true. As was mentioned general health is more important to make sure the person will survive the surgery and recover their health. Daisy, & others on herbals I love your spirit and energy with growing your own herbals. I think we just need to be VERY careful given that we have autoimmune conditions. We have to avoid any immune system enhancers or boosters. I think Dr. Weil, who has been mentioned before makes some wonderful recommendations in his work. I especially like Spontanious Healing He urges people to recognize the appropriate balance between traditional medicine, like prednisone for reduction of inflamation, and green tea and walking for overall health. I am of course oversimplifying, but it is a good book. Take care, Patty
Guest guest
Thanks to all for the lovely, warm welcome! I am looking forward to getting to know you all, and offer support, encouragement & friendship. A little more about me...Nearly two weeks ago I had a sudden, excruciating pain in my right leg. Nothing would relieve it, so my kids took me to the ER. After awhile, the pain dissipated by about 75%, but my leg lost it's strength and normal sensation. A brain CT revealed no tumor nor stroke but xrays showed constricton on my spine. I am waiting for an MRI and visit with a neurosurgeon. Since Dec. 26 I've been eating more healthfully...I am vastly overweight (morbidly obese- ugh) and this little body of mine needs some relief. Since my right leg went goofy on me, walking is so hard, having to pull it along. I don't want to lose my mobility, and do need to move to help get some weight off. I have felt a little discouraged but I do really try to see " the glass half full. " I know I have many blessings & wonders in my life, including finding you folks. I hope it's ok to say this...if any of you believe in prayer, please add me to yours. I would so appreciate it. My youngest daughter is getting married this summer, so tomorrow she & I will be getting together to talk about plans. It's not going to be a huge wedding, but it will be a sweet & precious one! With hope for us all... Tess
Guest guest
Hey Dana, Thanks for your comment, cuz the short and sassy hair is so not what I am use to. I am starting to like it slowly. Been trying to get on track and lose all the weight I have left #30, but the scales are moving way too slow, but the inches are just falling off. I think my body is in a great shave off inches mode. Yeep-Pee! and I went for a fill and I think we both talked ourselves in tightening up, so I only got .3 and she .2. Thanks for the info of waiting until afternoon to get your fills. Doesn't Miss look great. We sure enjoy her and her family visits. She has a wonderful 5 yr. old. Great kid with great mind. Such a Gentleman at his young age. She's been talking photo's of the barn progress. Thanks !! You know losing is as much a head thing as a food thing for me. The stress sure does tighten my band. I thought I was losing my Papa and I could barely eat, but he is much better now. You know these U.S. Dr's don't want to really treat the elderly. They just want to over medicate. Papa comes from a medical back- ground and he refuses more meds. Says they settle in an organ and causes more problems. Sorry so long and babbling, but dealing with an elderly parent is very difficult. Say a prayer for us. Thanks, Debrondana@... wrote: HEY, Everyone That recently posted pictures....
