Guest guest
Thanks everyone for such a warm welcome. I should mention that we live in the Asheville, NC area. Amy asked me if we would be starting Payton on meds or behavioral therapy. The dr. didn't feel that he is ready to be on meds at this time but did say we probably won't make it through grade school with out them for the OCD and ADHD. I don't know how we will medicate for both???? Is that even possible? The whole idea makes me nauseous to think about. As far as behavioral therapy, he did tell us some things to begin at home but I intend to read up on it and ask him more about it at our next visit. Any suggestions would be great. asked what some of his behaviors are (OCD and ADHD) and if they are recent. Most of his OCD behaviors are lining up, sorting, straightening, etc... Once you do something one way you have to do it that way for life. Payton also did not eat solid food until he was 3 years old. He would only eat baby food. We now think that had something to do with the OCD. So, no, his OCD is not new. The ADHD is also not new but has gotten A LOT worse in the past few weeks. His main problem is that he talks incessantly - to himself, to us, to the wall, to his toys, you name it. He also has " ants in his pants " and can't sit still for more than 2 seconds. However, thank goodness, he is a good sleeper most of the time and still takes a nap. Our main problem is one that is recent and that is anger. I don't know if it is stemming from the OCD or ADHD but he has started hitting, kicking, screaming, etc... when things don't go his way. So if anyone else out there has this problem, feel free to give me some advice. I would love to have some ideas for discipline as well because nothing we do works. We have tried taking away toys, sending him to his room, putting him in time-out, etc.... Anyway, sorry so long. Kim in NC
