Guest guest
a, I personally would insist on the endoscopy and not put myself through the drinking of the contrast, etc. for the upper GI. The endoscopy will show her (and Dr. R) what they need to know - why go through both? on GI Doctor > Hi, > > Met with my GI doctor about an endoscopy and she prefers to do an upper GI first. Guest guest
I had an UGI done about 7 weeks ago for some problems that I was occurring. Everything turned out normal. I saw my GI doc and he told me not to complain. The only symptoms I was having was a 3-5 stabbing pain every once in a while. There are many others out there that have severe problems that they have to deal with on a daily basis. He was not rude about it, just pointing out the facts. He also told me that all my labs that I had done and test I had done have come back normal. I am not having any burning in my tummy or reflex. When he examines me there is no pain when where he presses. He tells me that I am asymptomatic (SP?) What ever that means, I think it means that I have no symptoms for him to judge my problems on. He tells me that it is not my STOMACH that it has to be something else causing the problem.. But who ever I complain to about my issue with the pain is going to refer it back to my surgery. He suggest that I might have another test done at UNC but sense my anatomy was distorted, he didn't think that would consider doing it. He really thinks it is my bile duct that is having spasms or something along that line. I know that I am not talking in the greatest terms here but trying to get the point across. He also said he would do a ENDO if I wanted one. but he really didn't see the need in it sense that is not where I am having the pain. He wasn't being hateful, just laying it out on the line. I have been documenting all my pains day and night. He also gave me a RX to have some blood work done with in an hour after the pain occurs. That is all I have for right now. Guest guest
Her reasoning is that it is hard to get through the small spaces because of the surgery. skinnyp GI Doctor > Hi, > > Met with my GI doctor about an endoscopy and she prefers to do an upper GI first. Guest guest
No with the endoscopy, not the xray. Guest guest
a, I don't claim to be an expert in this but I am a medical transcriptionist and I type a bunch of these procedures. The standard of treatment is endoscopy first and then if there are problems or areas that you can't visualize then an upper GI. There is no way that I would drink the contrast, etc. and have an upper GI when I don't believe it will show the main thing you are looking for and that is bile and/or damage to your stomach and/or esophagus. That is what the endoscopy is specifically designed for. An upper GI is imply that - an x-ray. It is not a camera going into those areas and visualizing mucosa. Please rethink having the upper GI - it will just cost you and/or your insurance company more money because ultimately what you need for assessment is an endoscopy (as Dr. R recommends). on Re: GI Doctor > > > In a message dated 6/15/2001 4:12:17 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > shoutjoy@... writes: > > > > > > Her reasoning is that it is hard to get through the small spaces because of > > the surgery. > > > > > > That is not true! Guest guest
Hi , You are right. My goal was sidetracked. I was referred to a doctor that is no longer working there and given to someone else. So, I will as my PCP if he knows of a different GI person to refer me to. Thanks aW MGB 5/28/00 214/115ish lbs Re: GI Doctor > > > In a message dated 6/15/2001 4:12:17 AM Eastern Daylight Time, > shoutjoy@... writes: > > > > > > Her reasoning is that it is hard to get through the small spaces because of > > the surgery. > > > > > > That is not true! Guest guest
Hi Guys, ` I saw the GI doctor today and she wants to do a Upper GI Endoscopy. She wants to make sure the there is no scar tissue developing between the stomach and intestines incision. If there is she would open it with a balloon. If I am feeling better before that they may not have to do it. But she would rather make sure. Thought this scope thing was behind me. Hope everybody is having a good night, Lynn
Guest guest
How long will she wait to see if your condition improves before she will want to do the scope, Lynn? If I were in your shoes, I would contact to and schedule a follow-up or ask him in a simple phone consult what he thinks is going on and if the endoscopy would be safe. Or ask your doctor if she would contact him and at least talk to him before doing the endoscopy. I would ask a lot of questions before submitting to the scope. What is your primary physician saying about all of this? I know you like her, but does your current GI doc have any experience with Whipple patients? She is right to want to try to help figure out why you are having so much trouble, that's for sure, but, given your history, she should be exercising the utmost caution. I'm so sorry to hear your news, Lynn. I hope, in addition to not feeling good, that you are not too anxious. Guest guest
An endospcopy isn't that bad and gives a lot of info. I have one once a year to monitor my condition but since being on prilosec it hasn't gotten worse. The only drug I take that does the whole job! dat2352@... http://www.homestead.com/kuddlekrittersfarm/index.html http://www.homestead.com/kuddlekrittersdairygoats/index.html http://www.homestead.com/kuddlekraft/index.html
