Need ASAP Advice

Hi Everyone, I just now had a phone call from a very good friend who needs

some info ASAP. She has a friend whose husband just had prostate cancer

surgery. OK, that said. You know the part of your ribs, if you go from your

neck down and where you kind of have that dip right there where your ribs

start. OK, this man has a huge lump right there. It started out as pea size

and in a matter of 30 days it's now golf ball size. The radiologist said

that it was probably rheumatoid arthritis. Well, personally, I've never

heard of anything like this happening in RA. Has anyone else? The whole

thing is, they said they want to wait ANOTHER 30 days to see if it gets

bigger BEFORE they do any tests! Well, the guy has a history of cancer and

my friend who has had first hand experience with cancer knows that this can

happen with cancer and she is really worried that it is cancer, not RA, and

the docs are being real idiots about not testing it now.

Help. Can this happen in RA? Has anyone ever seen anything like this?

Rainy, does he already have an RA diagnosis or is the radiologist just

guessing?

Do you remember when in PA told us that Joe (her husband who has

RA) had a big lump develop under his arm (I think)? It was tested and

found to be non-cancerous. I'm not sure how fast it grew, but, as far as

I remember, it was that big. It gave them quite a scare.

could provide better details. It's hard for me to keep track of

everyone and remember everything!!!

Anyway, my advice where cancer is concerned: when in doubt, check it

out - immediately!

Mindy and ,

This is what I told my friend as well. Get it checked! She was quite PO'd

using words we shouldn't use here about those doctors who want to wait. I

told her, get another doctor to check it out. *I* myself was becoming irate!

I could tell she was really happy to hear me being PO'd as well, to confirm

what she was already thinking and feeling.

I believe the radiologist was making a guess, and that there has been no

diagnosis of RA, yet.

Anyhow, I will pass along your advice as well. I do remember when and

Joe were going through basically the same thing. As far as I am concerned,

when some growth suddenly appears on my body, I am not taking GUESSES, I am

getting tests! From what I understood, the doc didn't want to do an MRI or

other tests because they are so expensive! Well, I told my friend, YOU as

the patient are the doctors boss. If you want a test, you ask for it, you

get it! She agreed.

If anyone comes up with any info or knows of anything similar, please let me

know. My friend was asking if that is possible, to have a lump grow so fast

in just 30 days and it be RA. So if you've heard anything like that, also

let me know.

Mindy & , Thank you both so much!!! My friend Barbara truly appreciates

your help!

Thank you! Thank you!

Love, Rainy

HI Rainy, I haven't heard of this before either. I do know that due to my

history with breast cancer that my surgeon told me the day I went back to

have stitches removed from that last biopsy that anytime we find a lump we

will get it out. Don't want to wait too long. I hope your friends Dr.'s are

aware of his history.

Wishing him the best.

Be Blessed,

Becky
