For those who might think that they have adequately dealt with all the mass

marketed and overhyped courses on postural repair, postural alignment,

postural integration, structural reintegration, core balancing, pelvic

re-education etc etc, try this website on " postural integration " for size:

(OK, OK, resist the temptation to reach for my " Guru Terminology Kit " and

that means you especially, Jan Baggerud Larsen!!)

Definition from QuackWatch.com: Postural integration - a form of bodywork

that is an alleged access to the past and a purported means of: (a) releasing

and integrating " energy, " and (B) finding a " light, joyful balance " with

" mother earth. "

Now onto the Postural Integration site:

< Barrie's work as back-pain consultant is at the cutting-edge of

back-pain cure. He teaches professionals and laymen his " SYSTEM " with great

success, and provides treatments in London's Harley Street and Harrow Nth.

West London. He says: " Nine out of every ten cases of back-pain etc., are

due, without exception to pelvic misalignment. >

***It seems as if every gurus is at the " cutting edge " of something or other

- it must be awfully crowded over there, so let's stay back a little before

we become claustrophic at the stope faces of underground expertise and alien

secrets passed down from the 10,000 BC builders of the Pyramids while they

were contemplating the navel of Orion's Belt in the starry heavens.

So - nine out of every ten cases of back-pain etc? If he offers his system

in the medical echelons of power in Harley Street, I assume that Mr Barrie is

familiar with paraplegics and other spinal patients who have lesions way

above the pelvis and whose chronic back pain has nothing to do with " pelvic

misalignment " . Barret Dorko - you might enjoy commenting on more of Barrie's

science fiction. Yes?

<...Suddenly, I woke-up at around the age of 17 and from thenceforth began to

study with alacrity to make-up for the barren early years, caused by my

limited ability to learn, non robust health, and absence of proper

encouragement. Many who read this will identify with some or all of the

details outlined above-indeed it could all be accompanied by the strains of a

violin playing a mournful dirge. It 'aint all bad.

The energy generated by these early difficulties spurred me on to achieve

particular goals very successfully in a number of different ways as the

passage of my life gained momentum. After all, I chose this particular

incarnation to know: Who I really am! In recent years, I have realised I

have been blessed with the creative and inventive spark which all individuals

aspire to possess. These developments have been mainly in the direction of

the practice of medicine and also in writing of music composition.

The application of specific techniques in alternative medicine led me to the

creation of the flourishing Pelvic Correction System and to writing two

books, one in the form of a self help manual for the layman and the other as

a text book for the professional.

Barrie is a registered Shiatsu practitioner (accupressure) and

registered Cranio-Sacral therapist (similar to cranial osteopathy). A

qualified teacher of Hatha Yoga and founder of the system explained below.

[This explains a great deal of Barrie's claims - see our archives for

previous discussions on " craniosacral " therapy. Mel Siff]

<The discovery that nine out of every ten people have, in varying degrees

these debilitating conditions led me to conclude that two of the most

dominant pelvic lesions were:

1. Pelvic torsion of one wing (ilium) back/front causing the leg to be

shorter than its partner leg. " twist "

2. Pelvic side to side tilt causing the leg to be longer than its partner

leg. " drop "

These equal subluxation / dysfunction of pelvis.

When pelvic correction was performed, leg length equalised, tension in the

spine eased and elsewhere. The pelvis is the foundation of the skeletal frame

so that when subluxation/dysfunction occurs (so very common) an immense

strain is placed on the spinal segments especially lumbar.

The problem is the instability of the lumbar/sacral components causing the

pelvis to dislocate and the

vertebrae, which sit above the sacrum, to turn and twist engendering all the

spinal pathologies which

plague mankind. Please read-on.

Correction:

Through several years experimenting with particular techniques, some

invented, some discovered, and some existing methods as in Muscle Energy

Techniques, and Japanese Sotai which I have adapted successfully to re-align

the pelvis. These techniques do not require the percussive actions of the

Chiropractor or the thrusting methods of Osteopaths.

Importantly, the patient can be taught these methods which take a few minutes

a day, and thus 50% of the work to gain pelvic stability is passed back to

the back-pain sufferer (or any of the other problems already mentioned) and

he / she is re-empowered and more in control. The practitioner takes charge

of the remaining 50% to help gain pelvic stability in whichever discipline he

/ she practices....>
