Guest guest
Recently I have started working out early in the morning. I used to workout in the evening, but due to my job I don't get the time to do so. Any way since I go to the gym at 700 hrs my energy levels usu. get depleted very soon, the reason being the overnight fast. I am afraid of losing some of my muscles. So what kind of meal(what should be the percentage of carbs and protien) should I take and how many minutes before the workout. I would like to point two things here. One, right now I am trying to lose some of my fat. Second, I am a doctor and I walk for about 4-6 hrs a day. Fahad Fateh. Karachi, Pakistan. Guest guest
A carb drink during the workout may help more than a preworkout meal. I drink about a liter of water with about 25-30 of carbs mixed in. This helps me have more energy for the last half of my workout. If you want to have a meal before you will probably want it to be liquid for easier digestion during the workout. I think there is also a wide range of tolerance to how close you can take calories in before your training. I don't like to have anything closer than at least 1 hour. Better yet, 2 hours before. As far a amount it might be 2-300 calories with about an even amount from carbs and protein. Just my opinion. It works for me. Guest guest
Several years ago, I developed the habit of waking up about 2/3 of the way through a night's sleep, eating, then going back to bed. It started when I was losing a bunch of fat on a restricted calorie diet and I actually woke up because I was hungry. If you could manage to do this, you would wake up in a better nutritional state for working out. I also think eating in the middle of the night is good for recovery, because without it, you might end up goind something like 10 hours without food. I usually fall back into a deeper sleep for the next 2-3 hours than I do if I just drink water. I just eat a relatively normal small meal with some protein, fat, and carb - almost all my meals are the same size, eaten 5 or 6 times per day. If you're like me, you won't have to set your alarm or anything once you get used to it, and you'll probably never stop doing it, either.
