Guest guest
Hi Rainy! I am game to your weight club idea. I need to loose SOOO much weight that I have gained over the past two years. Being on predisone did wonders for my pain, but it REALLY packed in the weight. I have an appointment with my Dr this week, and I will talk to him about going on a diet. I know he will be all for it. I need to buy a scale as I am going through a divorce and would you belive that my husband will not give me the scale?? LOL Let me know what day we are going to start this. I have not posted in awhile as I have been down with pnemonia, plus my pc had a virus, so now IM back! Hugs to all! B. <>< -- [ ] ~ Weight Club ?? Hello Friends, I have a suggestion. I know there are several of you who would like to lose some weight. What I propose is this. Why don't we all support one another in losing those pounds in a smart, sensible way? We CAN do this! But we have to want to. Not only will it be good for our health in all ways possible.. less stress on our joints, better for our heart, etc, we will also " gain " self confidence. Choose the diet of your choice, talk to your doctor and ask what is best, and also ask about fasting, if it would be OK to do once a week. Fasting rests your body. ASK your doctor first! OK. Those who want to do this let us know. I want to suggest that we check in and tell each other what we have lost. You don't have to tell us your current weight unless you want to, that is your choice. What I need from all of you is what day you would like to start and check in? Does everyone own a scale or have one accessible? One that you can get to once a week. So what do you all think? It will be up to you to chart your progress, so make one. Date. Beginning weight, and check in weights. What am I leaving out besides drinking A LOT of water? Lets lose the pounds together! This is a support group in every way. Who's game? We can do it! YOU can do it! ~Rainy rainysu@...

Maybe people who are interested in doing this could also ask their physicians what sort of exercise would be possible and most effective. Guest guest
Rainy, I think this is a great idea. I will help by sending in some arthritis friendly food ideas. It is very important to get proper nutrition while tying to loose weight. I am loosing weight (10lbs so far) but I am not on a diet. I have changed my way of eating permanently, so there is no diet to go off of and gain back again. I absolutely love the way I eat now and will never go back to the traditional American diet. Exercise is also very important. As painful as it is, we have to do it. Use it or loose it. But do NOT exercise a joint while in a flare. I start my mornings by going back to bed and doing gentle stretching and slow movements. It's easier for me to do it in bed. My elbow that was in a permanent bent position is starting to straighten out just by hanging my arm with a pillow under my upper arm and letting my arm dangle straight. Hard to describe, but gravity pulls my arm straight. Then I work on gently making it bend. In the mornings, my elbow is pretty puffy and stiff, but I am amazed at how much pain relief I get just from exercising it. I have a whole routine that I do that takes close to an hour, but it's worth it. I learned a lot from all the therapy I've gone to. a Rainy wrote: > Hello Friends, > > I have a suggestion. Guest guest
Absolutely. The whole point of this is to do it safely. Nutrition. Be sensible. Don't starve yourself. What I think has worked for me all these years is that I eat several small meals through out the day. In fact, I can eat whatever I want and don't gain. It drives Ryder and my friends crazy that I can get away with that. I am NOT bragging, I am just showing you that you can do this and that it is possible. Please, ask your doctors about what is best for you! Rule #1! Tell him/her what we are doing and share what your docs say. Also ask about exercise. That will be Rule #2! Ask if fasting is OK once a week. I do that on occasion. In fact, some people fast a certain amount of time, and slowly intro foods and find out which ones don't agree with you. But ask your doc. I can't stress this enough. Bcs I am not a doc, just supporter. Rule #1 - Ask your docs what is best for you. Rule #2 - Exercise daily the joints that aren't flaring. Be gentle, and don't over do. Rule #3 - Drink lots of water! a, this is where you come in. Time to post those articles. Drinking water cleans the system and all the drugs we take need to be flushed out. Rule #4 - Any ideas for more rules, speak up. ~Rainy NW Re: [ ] ~ Weight Club ?? > I really like your idea, Rainy. Guest guest
OK, this is good! First we need to do some research on what the best way to go is. Thank you, a, I did forget about the exercise part. That is going to be a key roll in this whole thing. OK, I have to be honest here, I won't be trying to lose weight myself. Somehow, I got lucky. I've been on Prednisone for 20 years now and I weigh 106.9 as of last Tuesday. I am here to be your " supporter. " OK, does everyone have a scale? Let's set a date and on that day we begin, we'll light our candles. Everyone let us know when you have weighed yourself so you can chart it and begin. a, we do need those good arthritis diets. NUTRITION! We are going to do this the SMART WAY! How about at the end of the month we total together how much we've all lost as a group? THAT alone will also help to inspire you. Be sure to speak to your doctors about this. We don't want to do anything that will hurt our health. OK, kinds of diets? I need help here. I think cutting out as much salt is a good idea as well, since it makes us retain water. A little salt is OK. Veggies. fruit. I bought some baby carrots on my last grocery trip and they come in snack packs. I bought some ranch as well. Those are easy to grab and good for you. Rice. Beans. Water. Cottage cheese? Fish. Chicken. Turkey. What do you think? Suggestions people. YOU are the ones who will be eating all this. Don't worry, even though I am not trying to lose, I will eat good food right along with you. Time to take our health into our own hands! ~Rainy
Guest guest
Hello , I too am sorry you haven't been feeling well, but glad you are doing better. And believe me there were moments when my divorce was awful, but I can't believe he is keeping a scale. Any way you can just purchase a new one and have your attorney send the bill to his attorney? I don't really remember if you fought over property as much as our child. And thank God that was resolved. He (as mine was and I for that) be angry. I hope and pray that this to will be better. Guest guest
Elly, Congrats on making the decision to join WW. I've been going since 01/07/02 and have lost 13.4 lbs. So far, its not been really that hard to stick with. We are also involved with Cub Scouts, we're getting our Pinewood Derby cars ready tonight for the big race on Saturday. Good luck with WW and remember drink lots of water. (you'll get plenty of exercise, going to the bathroom, or at least I do.) Marlis > I'm game! Guest guest
Hi Everyone! I am sorry I disappeared on you! I am in a horrible flare! I can say I haven't hurt this bad since before Remicade, 2 years ago this month, which I am over due on so that is why I hurt. I'll explain why I am over due later. Then, the last couple days my left hip has been in major pain. You know the kind, any sort of movement and you are swearing the most awful words you can think of. I don't complain much, but this one is a doozy! I know I should be laying down and keeping it quiet, but I have things to do! Things I want to do! I wanted to get back to my computer for one big one! I'm tired of watching TV and sitting out there feeling sorry for myself. So, I am pushing it and walking on it anyway.. ouchies! Now, has a date been set for the beginning of our Weight Club? I'm sorry for not doing that. I just wanted to give everyone time to get scales and talk to docs and plan some food dishes. If you haven't started yet, let's start. I would like to do (Ooooh, it's snowing!) weekly check-ins on pounds lost, and monthly totals of what we have all lost together in one month. What we will do, then, is on the last day of each month is add weekly totals. OK, you will add your weekly totals, and send them to me, I will add everyone's weekly's and come out with one monthly total. How does that sound? What day would you like to do check-ins? I was thinking Saturday night, and when everyone wakes on Sunday morning we can all compare and brag and all that! Then we start fresh at 0 until the next check-in. During the week we can share what we eat, tips, etc. You have to help me here. Are we counting calories? If so, you can talk about how hard or easy that is for you. Support! Once we start losing I want to hear from you how losing has helped your joint pain. Or if it hasn't, etc. Anyone taking vitamins? Calcium? Iron? Share it all. This is how we will as a group lose that weight we don't want anymore. Sooo........ " Prednisone be damned! You won't win this race! " Go! Go! Go! Don't forget to do exercises. Simple stretching is good! Don't lose those joints! I can tell you from personal experience that losing mobility is NOT fun! My right shoulder is pretty bad and if my left one follows, no more pony tails for this long haired girl (down to the middle of my back)! My right shoulder is so bad at times that I need Ryder to put deoderent on my left pit for me because the damage/mobility in my right shoulder is so bad. I've been exercising it for years so I don't lose anymore. I think I'm winning that race! OK darlings! Let's get started! Make yourself a chart of some sort, to mark pounds lost, foods eaten, calories counted, exercises noted. Anything you think is important write it down. Those who have gone and are going through WW, any advice on keeping track? " Good Luck! " ~Rainy
Guest guest
Hello Everyone, I'm new to this group. I have suffered with Fibro for about 20 years. Went through 10 years of Anti-inflamatories and prednizone, sleep medications, etc. After moving from Texas to Oklahoma in '89 symptoms improved and was in remission for 11 years. The last two years have seen a slow downward spiral. It isn't as severe as before but symptoms are returning. I resently started on Celebrex but became so physically exhausted and drowsey I had to stop taking it. Now it is like painful rigamortis is setting in. All the joints and muscles are aching once more. I was on WW before Christmas and would like to get back to the program or just keep track with this group. We can all use the support, I'm sure. Guest guest
Welcome Chesquena. I hope you find something that helps you. Did any special treatment made your FM go into remission for 11 years or did it just go away by itself? Is there a major weather difference between the 2 states? Some say weather makes a difference and others say it doesn't matter. Celebrex didn't do anything for me. a [ ] Re: ~ Weight Club ?? Hello Everyone, I'm new to this group.
