Guest guest
Jeanne, Describing pain is very hard to do. Before my knee replacement that knee was excruciating pain whenever I stood. The other knee is bad but not as bad and only tolerable pain. My shoulder is like it starts in the joint then radiates down the muscle. And the muscle then aches. The hip that is being replaced in 2 weeks is strange. More like a tooth ache and it doesn't matter if I'm walking or not. I do understand what you mean about it moving around too. Guest guest
A toothache is a very good description of my joints too. I also get very sharp piercing pains in my ankle that sometimes is so bad that I can't put any weight at all on it. It feels like a knife is stuck in my ankle. This is the way my knees felt before they were replaced. a
Guest guest
Hi Jeanne, I always characterized my pain as " traveling pain " . I felt stupid trying to describe this to the rheumatologist. Especially after having been dismissed by my primary care physician for so long. It's funny to learn after the fact that these are common symtoms! My pain would center in one area, stay there for a period of time, then move to another area. It started with a finger, then my thumbs, then my hands/wrists, then my feet/ankles, then my knees and finally my shoulders. While each phase seemed bad, the shoulders were the worst. They both hurt all the time, I couldn't sleep, and the best I could characterize how they felt, was that it felt like I had two broken arms. A miserable way to feel. For a number of months I gave up treadmill and stationary bike exercising and just went straight to the heated pool and hot tub. It was the only thing that made me feel better. The pain in my shoulders would just get more irritated by walking on the treadmill or riding the bike. Yesterday I was having pain in the upper portion of my left foot, stiffness in the hip area, and ankles and of course aches and pains in my hands and my neck and shoulder area. Yup, pain definitely travels! Today I feel okay again. Crazy disease. Suzanne > Hi all! > It's Jeanne again. I just was wondering how you all describe your > joint pain? Mine is like a traveling pain that picks and chooses > various joints throughout the day. I've never had swelling or redness <snip>
