I wasn't bored at all, June. In fact, I read with much interest what you

had

to say. I hope the birthday party was fun and your teaching went well.

The story about the woman at the nursing home made me burst out

laughing. It reminded me of the time that I went with my children and my

former SIL and her kids to a nursing home to give a little musical

recital.

A number of us had already played our instruments or sung and next to

perform was my nephew who was probably around six at the time. He

started to play his violin and a woman with Alzheimer's started

shouting, in progressively louder volumes, " Shut up. Shut UP! SHUT UP! "

was stunned, of course, but the rest of us were trying very hard

not to laugh. An aide had to remove the heckler from the room, we had to

try to console my nephew, and the adults all laughed very hard when it

was safe to. We don't know what it was about his performance that

triggered such a response, but we still talk about that incident to this

day.

Hope you aren't too worn out after the week's activities, June.

[ ] Wheat, Gluten and Rheumatoid Arthritis

> Hi a,I have been thoroughly reading all the posts on this subject.

It was only when my friend was recently diagnosed with celiac, that I

really researched this disease. Her Mom died 2 years ago, very

suddenly, with Pancreatic cancer and while researching and finding that

it is an inherited disease, there is a strong link to celiac being the

cause of the cancer. The only proven way is to do a stomach biopsy and

most doctors know very little about celiac disease.

> Many years ago I recall attending a lecture about the link between

gluten and arthritis. I think I am going to try it for a couple of

weeks,it certainly can't hurt.

> Just getting ready to go to an Italian buffet to celebrate grandson

Craig's 22nd birthday,so the diet will have to start Monday lol. I have

managed to lose 5 lbs just by cutting down food intake and going on the

treadmill. I don't want to be as thin as I have been all my life

(89-92lbs), I just do not want to be a size 6 on top and size 10 at the

bottom. Of course I am getting excited at the prospect of seeing my 3

grandsons and families, eldest is in the Canadian army and we will

all miss him.

> It is windy and cold here and yesterday was so warm I went out in a

spring jacket. I am teaching Monday and Thursday next week.

> Now for a funny story. As most of you know,if there is a special

occasion at the nursing home near us,I go over and help the ladies put

on makeup, which they love. One lady is 92,just a sweet, lovely very

classy former school teacher. Well, she went overboard with the

makeup, having the time of her life and even took her mirror to the

dining room so she could keep looking at herself. When her daughter and

family arrived, her daughter was appalled and said " Mother, what have you

done to yourself, you look like a clown " . My little lady looked up at her

daughter and in the same sweet voice she always uses said very

loudly " screw you " . The nursing staff laughed so hard, finally the

daughter composed herself and joined in the party.Such a little

thing, gives these ladies so much pleasure and I now have 2 other girls

helping me. Even when senile, they seem to relate to dressing up and

putting on makeup.
