Guest guest
Hi Suzanne, She put me on 20mg 3 times a day for 3 days, then 20 mg 2 times a day for 2 days and then 20mg 1 time a day for 5 days, thats it.weaning me off. I am not sure I remember if you were RF positive? I guess I could look back through the post but since I am " here " I will just ask that you refresh my memory, please... : ) Did it take it all away for you or just enough to be able to do more? By the sounds of it just enough to do more, huh. Are you having any side affects with it? I even went to Wal-mart and got my seeds and gardening supplies to start my indoor planting....I think I need to get it done before I go off this prednisone. Is your Doctor keeping you on it? Do you know what, it just hit me that my Doctor has never once looked at my body, not my hands or anything.hmmm, just going by the test results I guess. I think I should go ahead and make an appointment to a rheumy....have you been to one?Is the 4th going to be your first time to see him? How is your family taking this? I hope I didn't ask too many questions, but I would love to hear your experiance with everything, well, not " everything " ...some things are private...sorry s*x popped into my head when I said that...lol...I still have my crude sense of humor... Thank you so much for asking about me, it all means so much to me. Hugs, Mindy

Guest guest
Hi Mindy, I was wondering how you would do once you started taking prednisone. Is that all your doctor prescribed? What dosage? Time frame? I had the same results, within 4 hours of taking my first dose, I felt like a *new* person. Now, I guess the plan is to keep me feeling as good, but wean me off the prednisone, if that's possible. I have an appointment on March 4, so maybe I'll learn more about the rheumatolgist's strategy. Glad you're feeling so good! I really overdid it yesterday, doing some housecleaning/rearranging. Man was I miserable, sore and tired by early evening. On the one hand, it was wonderful that I felt and could do the activity, on the other, it doesn't take much to overdo and suffer as a result. Feel fine this morning ,but I can't wait to get to the pool at the gym! Suzanne
Guest guest
Mindy, I hope you do get over it! I went to a gym for aquasize classes and there was every body shape imaginable there! Water classes are the best exercise for arthritics. We have to keep the joints moving or we will loose them. a BYORKFAMILY@... wrote: > Oh, Suzanne....Have a blast at the pool!!!!! > You must be thin, I on the other hand have not been able to humble > myself to > put my suit on to go to the pool at my gym...I have a feeling I might get > over that soon!!!!lol > Have Fun!!!!!! > Hugs, > Mindy > >

Guest guest
Hi Mindy, > She put me on 20mg 3 times a day for 3 days, then 20 mg 2 times a day for 2 > days and then 20mg 1 time a day for 5 days, thats it.weaning me off. I'll bet you do feel great! I started with 15 mg. a day for 3 days, droppped to 12.5 mg. for the next 3 days, then 10 mg, for the next 3 days. The plan was to keep dropping 2.5 mg. until I was taking 2.5 mg a day until my next appointment (which is on the 4th). My symptoms started returning when I dropped below 10 mg. My rheumatologist told me to stay at the lowest level that gave me relief, so I've been maintaining at 10 mg., once a day. I also take methrotrexate, although I can't say it's helping or not, at this point. > I am not sure I remember if you were RF positive? Areas of inflammation didn't show up until I had a bone scan. > Did it take it all away for you or just enough to be able to do more? By the > sounds of it just enough to do more, huh. I felt terrific once I started the prednisone. I feel better and better all the time. I find myself returning to activities of old like I was never incapable of doing the things I used to not be able to do. For instance, I grabbed a half gallon carton of milk yesterday. Just yanked it out of the refrigeration, one handed, squeezed the top and pulled it open. I haven't been able to do that in ages!!! Use to need both hands just to pick it up, and fiddle with a knife to force it open. I am plagued by physical exhaustion if I take on too much. That's not " normal " for me. But I am so improved, I just want to to last. I haven't noticed any side effects specifically. And I don't know how long the doctor plans to keep me on it. I think the plan is to just keep me on the methotrexate, but I'm not sure. > Do you know what, it just hit me that my Doctor has never once looked at > my body, not my hands or anything.hmmm, just going by the test results I > guess. I'm glad you mentioned this!! My internist never checked my joints either. When I went to the rheumatologist, he spent about an hour and a half with me, checking *EVERY* joint, moving body parts in every conceivable direction. It was amazing. He then ordered more x-rays, a bone scan and additional blood tests. You've heard it here before, I will add my voice, a *good* doctor will ask to see your films (x-rays, bone scans, whatever) to make his/her own determination. Much is missed by just reading the radiologist's report. The radiologist never mentioned the swelling in other parts of my body where I was experiencing pain, the report only mentioned my feet and hands. (There was also inflammation present in my ankles, knees, and shoulders, that the radiologist failed to mention.) At the time of my appointment, I was suffering the most from my shoulders, *which weren't even mentioned*!!! Please make that appointment with a rheumatologist. You need to know what's wrong and devise a plan to attack it. Just having steroids thown at you without a diagnosis isn't very helpful in the long run. My appointment on the 4th is my third one. I saw him first in December. Went back Jan. 21st to get test results, a working diagnosis, and an initial plan of treatment. My third appointment is to evaluate how I'm doing and plan forward. My family is pretty small at this point. My husband pretends I'm just fine 'cos the alternative is too scary. My parents are dead, we never had children (other than the cats, who only care where their next meal is coming from <vbg>). My sister is very supportive. That's all of us! > I hope I didn't ask too many questions, but I would love to hear your > experiance with everything, well, not " everything " ...some things are > private...sorry s*x popped into my head when I said that...lol...I still have > my crude sense of humor... > Thank you so much for asking about me, it all means so much to me. Guest guest
Thin? No maam, I wish! I'd be real happy to lose around 50 pounds. Fortunately, my gym in the morning is full of all sizes, some make *me* look small! Mostly retired folks, male and female, we've become a very closeknit group. Almost all have some kind of physical problem which going to the pool, hot tub and gym helps them enormously. What I most love about these folks is the concern we have developed over the years. If one of us doesn't show up at the gym, usually Miss Ida will start calling to see if the missing member is okay. It's a nice feeling... The truth is, I get so much relief at the gym, wild horses couldn't keep me away. I got over worrying about how I looked in a bathing suit real quick. Guest guest
Suzanne, What an inspiration, I will soon, I hope, venture to the gym for this. One step at a time huh! I hate to complain but right now my muscles are so weak that getting done what I need to here at home is a real project right now, and if I walk too much I am swelling so bad my shoes don't fit and my legs just shake...so do my arms but my legs carry me so that is such a hinderence...know what I mean...LOL I am definatley asap going to do that...THANK YOU FOR THE ENCOURAGEMENT!!!!!
