--I am on COBRA too. Just this year, it has gone from $298 a month to

$349 a month (dental included). Of course, it's still a lot less than I'd be

paying if I had no insurance. I had to cash in my 401(k) to make these

payments and to live until I can, hopefully, get SS disability. It could be

worse. I have a long-time partner (same as a husband) and he feels he can

support me, but not if my medical expenses are added in. I've always worked,

up until last May; I've always had my own money and I find it very hard to

adjust to having to ask someone for money for my personal expenses. I do

lucky that I have someone to ask. Anyway, COBRA only goes for 18-months

after leaving the job. I didn't know a person with chronic conditions could

get any sort of individual coverage at anything approaching reasonable cost,

if then. Do you know something I don't?

To those of you who are dealing with such dire financial problems--Boy have I

been there! Most of my adult life, in fact. I don't know how I got through

the financial crises so many times, but one time I came very close to

committing suicide when I was so sick I didn't know how I could work even if

I found a job. And I raised a son by myself and he was ADHD (attention

deficit hyperactivity disorder). One way or another, I'm still here. My son

too is alive and well and has a family of his own. I wish I had a solid,

practical answer for you., but don't lose sight of the fact that whatever

power has sustained you to this point, today, will more than likely continue

to sustain you. I am a " spiritual " rather than a " religious " person; by

choice, I don't belong to a church. I don't know what form your spirituality

takes, but I do believe that for all of us, there is a power that sees us

through even though we have no way of seeing how it will be done. I believe

prayers are effective no matter what religion or spirituality is behind them,

and along with the others here, I'll keep you in my prayers.

Hi lie,

I just read what you wrote and it is beautiful. I am going through a very

bad time right now. Your reminder that God is with me and helping me, is a

help. When things get so bad I think we tend to forget who is behind us.
