Hi Friends...Well, I finally drove out to 'timbuktoo' where a clinic has

a scale that weighs people over the 350 lb. mark. It is quite a

distance, and driving with the herniated disk causes unpleasant

after-affects, but I really felt like I needed to see the number, not be

able to be in denial, and have a place to start from.

I was 12 pounds higher than my 'guesstamate'. I want to use this

information in a healthy way - as a marker - not to beat myself up with.

I really, really need your prayers. One of my doctors has talked to me

about gastric bypass surgery, but my health insurance (through the state

for low-income folks) doesn't cover it, and I've had several friends do

it with mixed results.

I understand that I eat, at times, to 'tranqualize' mysellf. Sometimes

it feels unbearable.

For many years now I have not done other eating disordered behaviors as

I did in the past (binge-purge, starve, laxatives), so I know there can

be change. But now it's down to the wire, the basics. I need to

somehow change as a person, and use food as nourishment, and begin to

move more the best I can, without hurting myself.

I wrote a list of things I really want to do...dance, go on rides at

Disneyland, ride a horse, walk on the beach, and others, all things I

cannot do now because of the excess weight.

I'm going to try to get to the clinic once a month from now on, as I

need the 'reality check' but any more often than that for me could turn

into an obsessive/compulsive problem (when I was somewhat lighter and

owned a scale sometimes I would weigh many times a day.)

Please keep me in your prayers. I know I cannot do this alone.

Hugs...

Tess

My name's Carol, I live in Central Florida, and have been lurking/learning

for about a month now. I am recently diagnosed with RA, but I have had

symptoms on and off for years I finally seeked treatment in early January

because the pain was unbearable. My doctor did blood work, which showed a

positive ANA 1:160, but negative Rheumatoid factor. He referred me to a

rheumatologist. My rheumatologist saw me promptly, and I've been on

Plaquenil 400 mg for 2 months, and methotrexate 7.5 mg for 6 weeks. He's

decided based on the examination/symptoms it's RA not Lupus, but I were to

develop kidney problems etc he said he might revise that.

I'm not able to " leap tall buildings with a single bound " yet, but I have

more and more good days. I appreciate all I've been learning from this

group.

I really want to join in the Weight Club. I quit smoking 2 + years ago and

have gained over 30 lbs! I only want to lose about 25 of them, though,

because I was underweight. Last week I lost 2.5 lbs. It's a start.

Congratulations to everyone who's lost this week.

Warm regards,

Carol in FL

Good for you Marlis! Enjoy that Church dinner! One luncheon shouldn't

hurt to much. As long as you eat healthy the rest of the week, hopefully

you'll just maintain that weight loss.

hugs,

Welcome Carol! Sorry about the RA diagnosis, but glad you're getting

treatment. All the research indicates that the earlier it is treated,

the better off we are. It takes a while for the meds to start working.

Congratulations on your weight loss AND your quitting smoking. It's been

4 years since I quit, and it's the best thing I ever did for myself.

I'll be posting some links for you regarding lupus and RA diagnosis. I hate

the thought that you have to wait for kidney damage to get the right diagnosis.

Hope you're having a pain free day.

Has anyone tried the Burger King Veggie Burger? I don't remember the exact

figures, but it has much less fat and few calories than the regular whopper.
