Guest guest
hi.. my husband works in an environment that is controlled by health Canada…yet his company is American…trust me that the Canadian health guidelines have stricter policies for contaminants in drugs…. as much as this is a rather sad situation be grateful that the process is being halted somewhere in production of these drugs for there really must be some contaminant involved for them not to reach their productivity level... as a matter of fact our government is now trying to restrict the sale of the drugs to the Americans because they now realize there is money to be made…so the rules will be changing quite quickly…. I don’t know the fda guidelines or if they can or cannot protect you but health Canada can by their guidelines set out….and I know how much drugs get thrown down the sewer at my husbands plant simply from contamination and not following the guidelines…so before we make this a cross border issue….make it an issue where people are attaining the meds they need at a price far lower than my American neighbours… see up here in canada we have drugs according to income…..if you make 50,000 a year you pay the first 1300.00 before all drugs are paid for free…..and your employer usually pays 80-100% of that deductible…. but the premise is to try get the drugs to the people that need them and hope the makers of enbrel and remicade quit playing around with people’s lives and get their productivity issues settled down… thanks just sharing thoughts……not borders as disease no knows no borders… sincerely sam [ ] Online Purchases from Foreign Pharmacies - Buyer Beware! Yes, Sam, many US residents are ordering prescriptions online from foreign countries, including Canada. The company I saw mentioned in the ABC report was http://www.canadianmedsusa.com, but there are many others. Here is a listing of a good number of online pharmacies in the US and abroad: http://directory.google.com/Top/Shopping/Health/Pharmacy/Online_Pharmaci es/ Unfortunately, the FDA warns that " technically the practice violates federal laws. " In reality, although online prescription purchases from foreign countries is not exactly legal, at this time, the FDA does not intend to track down and prosecute people who buy their drugs in this fashion. One huge caution to US residents contemplating this: if you do buy online from a foreign source, the FDA cannot protect you. There is no FDA guarantee that the drug is what you think it is or that it is safe. If you get ripped off, you can't really going crying to Uncle Sam about it. So, buyer beware! ABC article: http://more.abcnews.go.com/sections/wnt/dailynews/canadian_rxdrugs020308 ..html FDA Tips and Warnings for Consumers about online drug purchases: http://www.fda.gov/oc/buyonline/tips_warnings.html [ ] enbrel remicade hi one idea try the Canadian pharmacy that was shown on abc news to get your Rx filled. http://www.rxnorth.com/ this is all over the news now as the Americans are saving so much money buy from the Canadian drugstores..try getting your enbrel and remicade filled there... I have not used the pharmacy as I live in the town where all this controversial situation is happening so my access is not needed via the internet.but the Americans are spending between 10 and 12 million a month for cheaper drugs of the same brand name. just a share. regards sam
Guest guest
Hi and welcome, Sam! Please don't misunderstand my cautions to the group, most of whom are US residents. I am not trying to imply that Canadian standards are inferior to those in the US, I am merely trying to warn people that buying meds through the mail or over the Internet, especially from foreign countries, has risk. Because of the distance and method people will have a harder time knowing whether their supplier is on the up and up. Not only that, if there is a problem, since it is not quite legal to buy drugs this way, the victim will have little recourse. The US government can't easily help if fraud is committed abroad. So, I do wholeheartedly agree that people who need drugs should be able to get them and obtain them at a reasonable price. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous people out there waiting to pounce, both here and abroad. I'm not saying that people shouldn't choose shop with foreign dealers, rather just be very careful if they do. Know your supplier as best you can! There are creeps in the US, Canada, Mexico, Germany, ... everywhere. It's a sad state of affairs. Enbrel and Remicade are quite expensive, so I would hate to see anyone cheated out of a large sum of money or receive a drug that was not genuine and, worse yet, use it if it is not safe. I don't think there is any problem with the Remicade supply, but the Enbrel situation is quite disturbing. I really think it is poor planning and management more than anything else. Demand has outstripped supply, it is very difficult to manufacture, and the FDA has constructed so many barriers to get through that it is nearly impossible to build additional production facilities quickly enough to ease the shortage. The enrollment program that Immunex has designed seems to have a few flaws as well. Thanks so much for your input, Sam. True, these diseases have no borders. Sorry we have such a sad thing in common, but your kind thoughts are a very positive thing to share.
