Guest guest
Our son has been like this all his life. It is very frustrating for all of us. I used to find that milk products would tend to calm him down when starvation triggered a meltdown. Then we learned he is lactose intolerant, so we had to modify it, using Lactaid or lactose-free products. He started working at a fast food restaurant (Arby's), and has begun eating their sandwiches. Thank God. He is practically skeletal and very undersized. He managed to lose 8 lbs in the past 8 weeks (from 100 to 92), so we are giving him periactin three times a day. It seems to help his appetite. Quite the contrast from the worries of most parents, whose kids gain too much weight from the meds. Judy Re: blood sugar, was :Kathy I definetly notice a difference in Annie when she has eaten. Unfortunately her OCD just now is manifesting itself in a strong aversion to eating. She has agreed to eat frozen waffles, chicken noodle soup, macaroni and cheese (Kraft only of course) and grilled cheese sandwiches. So we have been rotating these for three weeks now and trying to get her to take a bite of whatever the family is eating. (which she won't do). For breakfast today she ate one cracker and several spoonfuls of chicken noodle soup. My husband read the can and calculated that she had about 40 calories for breakfast. And swallowing her pill has become such a huge thing that it takes about 45 minutes of cajoling, coaxing etc. If only I could get her to eat apples and cheese!!!!
