Guest guest
I had a trach for 7 years, don't anymore. Only time I had any bleeding when suctioning was when the suction catheter scraped my trachea which happened rarely. The only other bleeding episode I had was when the stoma got very irritated. Guest guest
I only have to suction when I have a respiratory infection (about once a year) but during those periods I have to suction frequently. Sometimes my trachea becomes irritated and there is some small amounts of blood. When that happens I try to back off the suctioning so it has a chance to heal. Trachy bleeding Hi Have any of our members with trachies experienced bleeding when you have suction? I have had 3 bleeding episodes this month and it has really scared me. Guest guest
Jodi, I was trached after respiratory arrest about 10 years ago because the doctors weren't sure how long I would be on the vent. Fortunately after 10 days was weaned off but I was very weak. Kept the trach for suctioning due to lots of congestion but I also saw slept with the trach opened with oxygen. It was a MESS! Anyway with time I got stronger and after several years began to think the trach was causing more problems then the SMA. When I started sleeping with the trach closed I discovered I needed suctioning less often. Was still concerned about some congestion though. Then I about the In-Exsufflator/Cofflator/Cough Assist machine and Dr. Bach. Took all of the information I found on the Internet to my pulmonologist. Had to convince my doctors I was determined to get rid of the " hunk of metal " in my throat and they reluctantly agreed. That was 3 years ago and I have been healthier......haven't had a bad case of bronchitis or pneumonia since. I've even then able to reduce the amount of respiratory meds (for asthma) I take. So for me the In-Exsufflator is the most marvelous piece of durable medical equipment I have. :-) Kathie In a message dated 9/29/02 1:08:05 AM Central Daylight Time, lynnie53@... writes: > kathie- > what made you / or happened so you didnt need your trach anymore/
