Guest guest
I have got to tell this story...today my next door neighbor called in a panic...help ..I have a nest a oriole babies on the ground the storm we had blew the nest out of the tree...I say,,,Put the nest back it is always best to let momma take care of her babies....4 hours later my door is being knocked down and there she is with two tiny babies...the nest is down again and the babies are stone cold..I get all hurt, wounded, half dead animals to bring back to life in the nieghborhood because I have many of my own and have the reputation of a save the animals person...anyway I get them warmed back up with a heating pad and feed them with an eye dropper and baby bird food..then make a call to the county game warden...I have no idea what to feed bay orioles ...I am told put those babies back...there is a 2,500.00 dollar fine per baby per day...they are a federally protected migratory bird....I am thinking I am trying to protect them they are going to die ...momma and daddy arent coming back we have been observing from the window ...off and on all day...anyway to make a long story short after several hours of phone calls ..I find someone with the Audubon Society that can legally care for these babies to take them...having to drive three hours upstate to get them to a Person that is legal....I find myself thinking is there a government agency anywhere that makes sense?...Anyway it was a day of concentrating on a different kind of trouble....didnt have time for the pain day ...and now as I sit here reflecting...totally pooped out it has been a good laugh...keep thinking to myself I guess there are people out there in high positions a lot crazier than little ole me....hope I didnt bore anyone just had to tell the story...Kathi in OK

Guest guest
Kathi, I had no idea that oriols were endangered. I've rescued all kinds of wildlife, and never would think to find out if any of them were protected or I could be fined. It's nice of them to let you know how they do and invite you to the release party! a > > > > > __________________________________________________ >
