Hi Everyone,

I'm new because I finally got a computer at home.

Have had JRA/RA since 1968, and am 41.

Anyway, just wondered if anyone has had to have fusion

to stabilize their c1-c2 spine subluxation.

I had one in 1998 and it has somehow " failed " , so I

have to start over again, and wanted to know how

others have handled this. I see a neurosurgeon, has

anyone tried any sports medicine or orthopedic types?

I know they do wonders for athletes with neck

injuries.

Any feedback is appreciated,

I'm trying not to freak out too much, the symptoms are

pretty wierd. Let's face it none of us has " time for

the pain! "

Thanks,

I'm not a cervical spine veteran, but welcome to the group, !

Sorry that you've had JRA/RA for so many years and now this failed

surgery.

Which type of cervical fusion did you have? What did your neurosurgeon

say was the reason for the failure?

Maybe some of these links will help:

and everyone,

I had a type fusion, wires wrapped around the

vertebra " knobs " and bone graft between the center protions.

My Neurosurgeon said yesterday it was still stable with the wires

even tho the graft was " unincorporated " We are having more tests,

contrast MRI/MRA to account for neuro/balance symptoms.

, thanks so much for these links, are you a cybrarian?. I had a

chance to see them more fully today, and the discussion in

http://www.emedicine.com/orthoped/topic551.htm

is very helpful in making sense now.

One thing I noticed that might be of interest to you all, the

statistics on what percentage of RA patients develop these cervical

problems seem to vary widely, so if you've had RA awhile, you might

want to check with your Doctor about it periodically. And definately

if you have pinching in the arms, " fuzzyness " , and neck pain. I

never really felt severe pain, just discomfort that I ignored like

alot of other symptoms. AND: one more caveat, be good to your spine!

Okay, I'll stop,
