Guest guest
Hi Joanne, Welcome to Florida! I live in southern Florida, just outside of Ft. Lauderdale. I am currently on COBRA UnitedHealthcare from my former employer. My husband and my daughters have Vista (formerly known as HIP) which is a POS. I continue my COBRA because not all of my doctors are on my husband's insurance. Also, with UnitedHealthcare, I have open access which allows me to travel within the network without permission slips, ooops, I mean referrals. So when I finally transfer to my husband's insurance and I need to have a formal PCP and use referrals, this will take some getting used to for me. If you have called six carriers in FL, you have probably tried most if not all of the insurance companies and if you are currently without insurance, you would not be eligible for the insurance portability thing. With the insurance portability thing, you can have a lapse of coverage not to exceed 60 days. But rates are extremely high and individual coverage is not written in all counties. My friend had the same problem and she ended up with no insurance and went to the county which has a fund for the uninsured supported by tax payers and was at least able to get medical care, prescriptions and quite a bit of surgery before she was approved for SSI disability. Hope your garage sale goes well and try not to overdo. Have a safe move to FL. Unfortunately, it sounds as though you will be moving to our fair state during the hottest months and, oh yes, don't forget hurricane season! Guest guest
Hi Joanne! I live in the greater Orlando area. I don't have insurance presently, so I really have no good advice in that regard. Tampa is a nice area, and I would highly recommend it. Orlando is too hot and not enough breeze. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask! Hugs, Carol [ ] Anyone live in Florida? HI As said previously I am moving to Florida from AZ and would love to hear from anyone who lives there...wherever. Presently I have been trying to get medical insurance in Florida and I am unable to locate ONE carrier who will insure anyone under age 65 and I have called all SIX companies suggested by the Dept of Insurance. Is that ridiculous?. My son lives in Tampa..so I guess I will move somewhere in that vicinity..Would that make me a Tampon???Too funny..Well we must find humor somewhere. I've called a couple of places trying to get insurance, but I was told that since I've been diagnosed with RA I am ineligible unless I go 5 years without needing any medications. Are there other options??? Thanks! Carol Re: [ ] Anyone live in Florida? Hi Joanne, Welcome to Florida! I live in southern Florida, just outside of Ft. Lauderdale. Guest guest
Hi Joanne, I also live in Florida. In the northwest corner, the panhandle, fondly known as the Redneck Riviera. It is very unlike any other part of Florida. Quite laid back, very southern, much of this area is rural and undeveloped. The beaches are quite beautiful and there is quite a variation of weather. I'll be out of pocket for the next week, flying off to Boston in a few hours. Guest guest
Hi I live in Central Florida and I have insurance and it doesn't mean a hill of beans. I live in Lake County and have to drive about an hour and a half to get to a rhuemologist who takes Aetna. Most days I just don't feel like driving that far. The nearest Primary care doctor to me is 45 min. I live 3 blocks from a hospital but must drive an hour to one that take the insurance. Insurance companies and doctors sure have us where they want us. If anyone knows of a good rhuemologist in Orange or Seminole County please let me know so that I can see if they take Aetna. Thanks everyone. Gentle hugs to all. Carol > Hi Joanne! I live in the greater Orlando area. I don't have insurance > presently, so I really have no good advice in that regard. Guest guest
Hi Carol, My rheumatologist is Dr. Poiley, and I think he practices in Mount Dora as well as in Orlando. He isn't too talkative, but he has treated my disease aggressively and is compassionate regarding pain. He's also been good about giving samples because I am uninsured. The nurses in his office are really nice, and never put out if I need to call in. Good luck, Carol [ ] Anyone live in Florida? > > HI > > As said previously I am moving to Florida from AZ and would love to hear > from anyone who lives there...wherever.
