Guest guest
Dr Walford goes into detail on choosing/finding a doctor on pp224-225 of “Beyond the 120 Year Diet”. The book (available in the public library) is a “must read” for this group. I've reduced from eating about 2300 calories a day to eating about 1900. Before I go much lower, I want to get the various sorts of biomarker tests done... Anyone know any CRON-friendly nutritionists in the Pennsylvania, Massachusetts or Rhode Island area? Or have any advice on how to find a dr or nutritionist who can help? Thanks much! Guest guest
Hi Hope: To add my two cents: we are all biased by our experiences. My experiences bias me (based on those I have encountered) to avoiding nutritionists altogether. Although there is one who posts here who makes an enormous amount of sense to me (and there have been quite a few others who made no sense at all). So, here is what I suggest: A) Check the credentials of any nutritionist you encounter (is their qualification from a *serious* institution or are they working for a serious institution?). Verify whatever their advice is by entering your food intake data into CRON-o-Meter to see if you are satisfying the various nutrient RDAs, and fix any deficiencies. C) Drop your caloric intake by only 100 calories a day, and drop another 100/day only after two to three months at the previous intake level. D) Compare your body metrics with those in the files here. Ratio of waist-to-height might be a good one to pay special attention to - for people the same gender you are. E) Don't go completely overboard on CR. The science still doesn't really show how low an intake is optimal for health. On VERY RARE occasions people who start out on CRON with too much enthusiasm end up with anorexia. But the health benefits are, of course, ENORMOUS. Welcome.
