I’m guessing that they are counting the liquid that the beans are swimming in.

Better to buy dry beans that you cook yourself. The canned are swimming in salt (as is most canned foods). I sometimes buy canned beans myself to have in a pinch. But I rinse them thoroughly. Rinsing probably doesn’t get rid of all the salt, but it cuts down on it.

Hello. I have a quick question for you guys. When I buy pre-canned

beans it will say something like 1/2 a cup (130) grams = 150 calories.

However, if I measure it, 1/2 cup does not weigh 130 grams. Not even

close. Which way of measuring is most accurate for this?

Hi Francesca and all,

I admit that cooking from scratch is the best, but

beans do take a long time.

Eden Foods, makes a full line of canned beans that are

all salt free. They are available at all health food

stores, most regular stores and online thru their

website and several others.

I keep at stash of several cans of several varieties

on hand and add them to soups, stews, salads, etc.

Thanks

Jeff

If you soak the dry beans for several hours, they cook much faster – only 1/2 hour or so. The soaked/cooked beans are also less gassy.

I cook up a batch once a week and then throw them in salads etc.

But thanks for the tip. I also stash canned for emergencies.
