sprouts and I could have had a V8

I have had time to sprout two of three of the seed types I recently

bought from Mumm's and am pleased to report they sprouted nicely and

taste great.

I think the secret to growing sprouts is sourcing good seeds, more

than any special apparatus.

I just tried two different approaches I hadn't used before (Mumms

" easy sprout " and a sprouting jar also from Mumms).

The gimmicky high tech devices are not required. One is literally an

open mouth jar with some netting and a rubber band. I recall a

college roomate growing sprouts back in the '60s using an old

mayonnaise jar. You can make your own netting out of some old

stockings (if you play that way) or just be careful when straining

out water by hand.

To anyone apprehensive about growing sprouts it really is quite easy,

and you can't get fresher than growing your own. The process is

incredibly simple. First soak the seeds for a few hours, then rinse

twice a day, then eat. It's been a while so I had forgotten how

refreshing fresh sprouts are.. taste good.

Harvesting the sunflower can be a little time consuming removing all

the husk, but it is relaxing and you can snack while you work. :-)

A follow up on the suggestion to drink V8 for Salt -electrolyte

replacement. It works great. plenty of sodium and probably other good

stuff too. I find it a little odd that the low sodium version (that I

didn't buy ) was less expensive than the regular full sodium mix. It

states on the label that it was made from concentrate. I need to find

a source for that concentrate. Last week they were out of stock on

the V8 but I found a Walmart house brand that coincidentally comes in

the exact same plastic bottle as the V8, and taste exactly the same

to my unrefined palate... hmmmm.
