I attribute help by Rodney and Tony to changes and encouragement. In spite of being a bit obstinate and not listening at the beginning I see vast improvement. Also, help from a fella on here named Ron. He hardly ever writes on the board but has helped tremendously too. I know I am not supposed to say thank you except in private so I won't. But, I hope we all get the gist of what can actually occur. My doctor has said I should frame this because it apparently shows what diet can actually do. I still have a long ways to go. I don't know about the Tryglicerides or what to do about them. My thyroid meds were adjusted in this process to and my TSH etc is all in range although I do go to have an ultra sound on my neck in two days just to see what is goin on with my swallowing. Any comments ? Bob
Guest guest
Hi Bob: If for another year you continue what you have been doing, your doctor will be shaking his head and sending back another blood sample for re-testing, and ordering himself a new blood pressure cuff, because he will not believe what he is seeing. Take a look at the data for the subjects in what has come to be known here as " the WUSTL study " , referenced in our 'CRstudies' file: --------------------------------------------------------------------- " Long-term calorie restriction is highly effective in reducing the risk for atherosclerosis in humans. " April 2004. PMID: 15096581. PNAS USA. 101(17):6659-63. --------------------------------------------------------------------- There is no reason why you, or anyone else here, cannot have numbers similar to those of the WUSTL subjects if they want to, simply by pursuing (or continuing to pursue) CRON. Have fun! Guest guest
Bob, It is good to see your progress. My total cholesterol went from 223 to 164 after I stopped eating hydrogenated fats and improved my diet. Over the last two years, my total cholesterol has increased to 176, but my ratios of LDL/HDL, Triglycerides/HDL, and TotalCholesterol/HDL have continued to improve. CRON is a healthy way of life. Unfortunately, many doctors and the general public believe the commercials for statins that say " I watch my diet and exercise, but my cholesterol is still high. " The problem is that doctors and nutritionists can seldom tell the patients exactly what steps to take to reduce cholesterol by balancing the fatty acids in their diet. CR by itself does not work. You have to have Optimum Nutrition. I have seen a couple of cases of people who had high cholesterol on CR diets that were deficient in essential omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids.
